NewNiceMrMe
I have had with & without on previous BMs & can take or leave as it is only an issue for the first 10 sec in the car a few weeks a year. However, if I ever bought a car with black leather & cooled was an option, I 100% would have that. Good god, not in this household. The first thing MrsMe and LittleMissMe do in a car is put the heated seats on! I've known them switch them on in the middle of summer!
patently
That's the seat heating button, not the seat vibration, right?
NewNiceMrMe
That's the seat heating button, not the seat vibration, right? I'll let you know when I've tried it. For the 28th time today.
Tipex
I pretty much agree with E-bmw with regards to heated seats, just don't see any benefit to them, they warm up the only part of you that doesn't need warming up, and by the time they've heated up, my body heat has warmed the seats up already, had them in the MX5 and never used them, had them in the Mondeo ST and never used them, don't have them in the Subaru (it has leather) and don't miss them whatsoever. The new Galaxy has climate seats which are both heated and cooled, I won't ever use the heating but the cooling will get used. Mrs T does use the heated seats sometimes but then she suffers from Raynauds disease (among other things) so is always cold and the heated seats help reduce the pain a bit. garcon magnifique
If I lived in France like you, Tipex, I probably wouldn't be fussed about heated seats either. One thing I discovered when I joined the world of BMW ownership is that proper heated seats heat the back of the seat as well as the base, thus warming one's back and midriff as well as one's fat arse. Subaru heated seats are crap.
NewNiceMrMe
I must admit I almost said the above. Even I find their back warming properties very soothing from time to time.
Tipex
I've never owned a car with heated seats that didn't heat the back as well as the base?
E-bmw
I didn't realise any did (didn't) do that.
patently
One thing I miss from my E60 is the ability to adjust the balance between back & bum heating. Push the slider all the way towards the back, turn it up, and it would relax your back wonderfully. By the time the Disco gets my back that warm, my arse is burning. Which is not good. DaveP
Heated seats are wonderful if you get in the car soaking after wet bike ride - you can almost see the steam it generates. Also helps to warm your hands - so a heated steering wheel must be wonderful.

It was also one of the few things that always worked. I think it is safe to say, judging by the comments from various people, that some of us think heated seats are brilliant and others think they're pointless. There we have it - choice. A wonderful thing.

cruiser647
I think I have used my heated seats (and so the steering wheel as weel) about 3 times since I bought the car in Feb.
Tipex
Yup, different horses for different courses. I cannot stand heated steering wheels, but I know Mrs T would love it as it would help with the pain in her hands. I'm also like a walking radiator, I'm never cold and and my hands are always warm, they would sweat immediately that I touched a heated wheel! I think we can clearly see that anything heated in cars, is for girls.

AudiPartner
I can't help but think even tho I don't have heated seats, I probably do! As in surely they wouldn't manufacture seats for an A8 without the heating elements in them. ie my seats are heated, they're just not wired up. Am I talking nonsense? Tipex
It's possible, have a look under the seat and see if you can find any connectors not plugged in to anything. It won't be as simple as plugging them in, the part of the loom that supplies them and the switches probably won't be there, either that or the loom will be, but the elements won't.
