A4 Cab Memory seat issue - longitudinal lockout range

Hi all,

I have been retrofitting electric seats to my A4 Cab 2003 (B6) and have since upgraded them to memory seats. To cut a long story short, essentially the longitudinal motor is not working correctly.

It works using the switch on the lower part of the seat but not correctly using the easyentry switch.

I have looked it up in Guided fault finding and there is an entry for setting the longitudinal lockout range. Unfortunately Guided fault finding tries to access the module but does not tell one what how to set the lockout range.

Anyone know how to set the lockout range?

Thanks,

Walter.

hi walter, cant help you with that one but wondered if you would kindly share your knowledge about the wiring in of the seats....not the memory module part but just the easy entry,is there a module required apart from the module fastened to the seat base?

Hi ith,

No, the module in the seat controls the seat motors as well as easy entry. Note that if you have memory there are 2 modules, that one and a second one, if you don't have memory seats then there is only one module which does it all. Note this module attached to all motors in non memory but just the longitudinal one for memory seats. If you have memory seats, it is the same module just the coding seems to be different.

There is also the switch on the side below the headrest to move the seat back and forwards, this is a very expensive part (not sure why) but does not seem to have anything special about it.

Let me know if you need any more info,

Regards.

"Let me know if you need any more info"

well as you are offering......originally my car had the manual seats but i swapped them out for all electric, ihave got all the base buttons working fine and the headrests are ok as well as the heaters but the easy entry doesnt work, idealy i could do with a a to b wiring guide for that circuit,i have had a look over the proper guide but to be honest i couldnt understand it.

This is the exactly the same issue that I have - if you have guided fault finding you will see that there is a section in that on the "Lock out range" for the easy access module (note when I installed the seats first they had the same problem this was before I converted them to memory seats).

On mine the passenger side works fine, only the driver side does not (though it will always go back using the easy entry button....

Back to guided fault finding - unfortunately when I go into this section on the lock out range it tries to communicate with the car - since I have an ebay copy and as a result I don't have the orginal VW cable it can't so I can go no further. Normally guided fault finding gives you some info on what it is doing but in this case it does not.

Did you wire in the Can Bus and the diagnostic cable? if so then with vagcom check if you have any error codes - you will probably have to "learn" the vin number if you have not done this already (adaptation 081).

After this I suggest brining it to a VW dealership and being very nice to them - it should only take them a few minutes to run the guided fault finding and recalibrate the seats.

Let me now how you get on as I have not done this yet.

Thanks,

Walter.

Can bus easy enough - you need to pick a module and wire it to the can bus going into it. Send me your car details and I can look up the best location this evening - note this can be a bit messy.

Diagnostic is easy enough - pin 15 (as far as I remember) in the diagnostics connector - again send me th details and I will look it up (note the Can might also be available here...)

For Diagnostics: Pin T10o/9 (pin nine in red connector in floor under seat) goes to pin 15 in the diagnostic connector

For Canbus T10o/6 (pin 6 in red connector under seat) - canbus High - goes to pin T32/17 in the instrument panel (blue connector in the dash panel)

T10o/7 (pin 7 in red connector under seat) - Can bus low - goes to pin T32/18 in the instrument panel (blue connector in the dash panel

To access just remove the dashpanel frame - pulls out. undo the 2 star nuts at the bottom and wiggle it out - note the steering wheel should be down as far as possible.

You can also attach these to the power supply module beside the fuseboard.

While you are at it connect the passenger seat to the driver seats - same wiring on that side then connect to diagnostics/canbus. note you may get away without the canbus connection just the diagnostics connection but you would have to test this.

Hi,

This is a relatively big build (note you cannot "upgrade" manual seats you must have replacement Electric seats (with or without memory):

the seats work as follows - assuming you have a Cabriolet:

1) The drivers seat has 2 control units in it - one for the memory function and one for the movement (actually the memory is split between both units but that is not really relevant), of non memory then only one unit is required

2) The passenger seat has 1 control unit (no memory)

3) the window motor unit takes the signal from the switch (memory seats) and sends it to the seat control units, also remembers the wing mirror positions IF you have electric wing mirrors with memory - big enough job to fit if you don't

You will need to :

1) wire power to the seats - will already be there if you have lumbar control

2) wire a Can-bus cable to the seat (to take the signals from the memory switch in the door)

3) Fit seats

4) Fit switch in doors (if memory)

5) Wire switch to the window motors (if memory)

6) fit wing mirrors (if memory) - or just fit memory motors (easier, if you can get the motors)

7) wire wing mirrors (if memory)

You may need to replace the window motors as some do not support memory function though I understand that the Cabs all have the correct unit.

Note, Electric seats are actually bit of a gimmick, the manual seat is far more efficient if you have a cabriolet and often carry passengers - the longitudinal (backward/forward motion) is very slow in the electric version.

Only really useful if you have 2+ people regularly using the car

not useful is one person is very small (as in my case) as Audi in their infinite wisdom does not let the longitudinal memory function work if the seat is within the "lockout zone" which is quite large!!

Units are very tempermental and can go out of tune quite easily.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Regards,

Walter.

Hi Walter,

many, many, many thanks to help me!!! :):)

I have buy a 'full internal' for my Audi A4 Cabrio 2,5 V6 2003, the two seat have this control units (Driver:8H0 959 760 + 8H0 959 760A, Passenger:8H0 959 760A) and the left door panel have a memory control switch, both seat have four plug black,green,red,yellow..

The difference for a new door panel is: No control swicth and light door , my door have a fake light..

anyway i have put a 'fly' power to RED plug on PIN 4 ---> +12v , PIN 5 ---> Ground it's work all !! but the easy entry doesnt work !!

I post image very soon!!

Thanks

/Max

late to the party with another question about installing s4 seats in my 2002 a4 quattro with manual seats.

Can you install S4 seat that come with memory settings without hooking up that option.  i just need the seat to install and stay for the most part in one position?  Also when looking for seats how does one know it they have the memory module.  Most seat on ebay don't mention this module or option
