garcon magnifique
Ah yes, Switzerland. The country that will imprison you if your car makes any noise or kills a daffodil, but is perfectly content for you to have an AK47 in the boot... Mollox
Of course that's OK - its allowed as a precaution in case any jolly Swiss have to travel to Saaaaaaf Larrrndern
Mollox
And Brabby - seeing as mine works anywhere it would seem at zero cost to me, I'm sure (in theory) you could buy an unused UK SIM (or Germany?) , have it installed and the nav unlocked (maybe) and hey presto.... Google it - I bet someone's done it!

I looked at this for someone else and the SIM is buried deep inside the car (inside the TCU), it can be found and exchanged but unfortunately the in-car systems don't know what to do with the new SIM and there are no menu options to configure/enable it for data services. My guess is that the TCU needs to be programmed to the SIM either at the factory or via a dealers diagnostic system. BTW, the SIMs in all BMWs appear to be on the T-Mobile network so I guess BMW did a bulk deal with them for global supply.

Andrew
Slightly off topic here. Mollox - is there a thread somewhere where you talk about the M3 and what it is like? Plus, I'm interested in where you got yours from and price etc etc since next year I might have a few quid to spend on a motor and an M3 might just fit the budget - especially if there are deals to be done! I'm thinking RS4 at the mo but not sure I want to buy a three year old car ... Sorry to take this off topic.
Mollox
Erm, no sorry - not yet - I've been very lazy but I will post up a review. Its an interesting car - I love it, its very very fast in 2nd gear (!) but its not without its compromises (as with any car) and it has a lot to live up to given its purchase price and daft running costs and its also far too fast for London. I'll elaborate further when I get some time but to conclude, nothing else matters when you're driving it - its brilliant from behind the wheel 99% of the time
Andrew
Interesting, thanks. Given my pending speeding conviction a car too fast for London sounds ideal ... Looked at 2nd hand examples today on PH and they are within range although I hear the running cost warning loud and clear ...
SINGH
Anyone know how to use Connect Drive? I want to call up BMW and ask them about the weather in Somerset or something! Can't for the life of me work it out. Managed to send myself a map from google staight to the car, with a message from myself. How cool! Also, RE BMW ownership benefits. Got an invitation to a Ladies night from Stratstone Taplow, where the car was purchased from.. :D Apparently, they tell you what to do in the event your BMW breaks down!
