steve2
How heavy is the sigma 17-70 (compared to the 70-200) 455 grammes against 1500 grammes. dave i use it as my walk about lens rather than the kit lens 35-70 , I also have the 70-300 4.5 vr but that is tucked away now since i bought the 70-
_Tone_
I am seriously looking at the Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 for my wide lens. The Ken Rockwell review is stunning, as is the DPReview but just wondering where to buy it from as I have read that sometimes they can turn up a little bad and may need replacing like the original Sigma 10-20. Go on hol on 18th and would love to have it for the trip. Cheers Tone
DHA
How much is the Tokina? I went with the Nikon 10-24 f3.5-4.5 and am very pleased with it. It seems pretty good in low light so I'm not sure I would need to go down to f2.
_Tone_
Hi Mate I have looked at the 10-24 Nikkor, Sigma 10-20 F3.5 and now reviewing the Tokina, which to be honest I had never even considered until I met someone with 12-24 Nikkor and the 11-16mm.I asked why they had both - started with the Nikkor the Tokina took over and the review at KR was suggested so have a read- Tokina 11-16mm Now the Nikkor is £650+ where the Tokina can be had from £400 approx, I know what you mean about needing something as fast as f2.8 but to be honest whilst at the Singa GP (ok its a one off but there could be another event) I found 4.5 on the 18-55 I had wasn't any good (flash impossible to use) hence upgrading the camera to a D90 and now looking for a good wide lens to it. I've also been on DP-Review and the Tokina wins but I would like to see a comparison of the 10-24 Nikkor and the Tokina 11-16mm even though the Nikkor is probably 50% more.. Decisions, decisions! Cheers Tone
DHA
There is a comparison at the bottom of the review on the 10-24 Nikon 10-24mm He says this For midweight DX cameras that can AF with the Tokina, like the D50, D70/s, D80, D90 and D100, it's a toss up over your need for speed (f/2.8) versus your tolerances for weight, distortion, physical toughness and price. DHA
It's not very obvious, there isn't a link to it on the 11-16 review. You have to find the Nikon review on the 10-24 to see a comparison!
richwig83
The 11-16 is reported to be a very good lens!! Although the new 10-20 3.5 Sigma also is very tempting... but ill be full frame soon! *whistles*
_Tone_
Rich - is that Canon or Nikon full frame? I'll hang on for a while before I jump in and get the lens - just got my credit card bill for a month in Malaysia and Singapore - dem girls cost more then I thought (joke)... On a serious note - I had purchased my D90 kit, new bag/tripod/battery grip & battery and so my coffers are nearly as bad as the chancellors! CarMad
Learn to use it before you splash out on extra bits, lens lust will come soon enough.

You can (im told) use it at 15-16mm on a FF camera!!
deanos3
Morning everyone, I had the pleasure of using this for 2hrs, would have been rude not to take any photos but they are just snap shots from the roadside (as in stop car, get the girlfriend to duck in the passenger seat, jump out, take a photo and then hoon off). They're all pretty similar, the roads I chose to drive and shoot on were all facing the same direction towards the sun! There's been some pretty heavy turd polishing going on..... 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. I think it looks pretty fetching in red.

Tobes49
Old one from the summer, Didn't like the location (Black on Black) Hardest part was getting a picture where you could see the metalflake in the paint:) Some other ones I've found on my computer My best panning shot yet (shame about the crash barrier) Edited December 26, 2009 by Tobes49
