hi,

just found this forum, and it is sad to see that people suffer the same problems over and over again with vw passats,my self included.do vw take any notice of the same problems in there model range, surely they read these forums, but take no action to rectify them.

i have suffered water leaks in all my passats estates,110bhp. year 2000,130bhp year 2003 and today i have just found the spare wheel well full of water on my 140 bhp tdi 140bhp sport estate year 2007.

there was about a gallon of water in the wheel well and some on the floor next to the tool tray on the n/s but the carpet trim is dry,i think it is either the roof rails the n/s rear window or the tailgate seal but cannot tell at present, has any member had this problem?

thanks. ken

Ken - I'd check all the lugs in the floor of the wheel well are intact and 'tight' - bear in mind the weather we've had lately!

On my old escorts if one of the lugs was missing the water would enter while travelling - often harmlessly draining away but sometimes accumulating as well.

If the lugs are OK then check that the area around the bootlid is clean and unobstructed by gunk - gunk can often allow water ingress by building up islands for the water to travel across the rubber beading protection.

It might also be worth checking that the rubber beading is seating correctly, even taking it up and reseating it onto a layer of silicone?!?

Hi Ken

Just seen your post.Rather shocked to read you have a water leak in your 2007 passat. You would of thought that after having so many issues with water leaks on the older versions of the passat,VW would have addressed the problem once and for all. What was the cause in the end?
