MMI Navi Error....????!!

Hi all,

Does anyone know the solution to this navigation problem?

I have a 2007 A6 Avant with High MMI.

After an hour or so of operation of the Nav, the MMI displays this message......."PLEASE CHECK NAVIGATION DVD"

After removing, cleaning and reinserting the DVD, the Nav will return to normal operation only to fail again after a period of operation.

Also, if the Audi is turn off over night, the Nav will operate fine when started only to error out again after about an hour of operation or travelling at motorway speeds (mainly).

When this error message is displayed on the MMI screen, the NAV information continues to display properly on DIS.....:confused::confused:

Your problem guys is the laser is dirty of failing with temperature. You will need to take the DVD drive out, and remove the lid, take the DVD mechanism out to gain access tot he head. Clean it with Alcohol (100%0 and not vodka!!!!!

This should cure the problem, if it does not, then you are looking at a new drive that will cost about £300-£500.

Ta mate, will have a nosey tomorrow, have been back in the Mondeo today with its Nav .... totally sh#te compared to the Audi's. Would the drive be covered under warranty or is out of my own pocket if its at fault?

If your car is less than 3 years old, or less than 60,000 miles then yes take it to the garage, otherwise its up to you.

To clean the laser, you will need T8 or T6 Torx bit

Never got a chance to check/clean my DVD drive the other day but Audi have the car for a service and i am also getting the rear lights cahnged because of the condensation issue. On another point, they've given me a new A6 with the new 3G satnav/mmi and its awesome .. I have seen Craigs report on how he changed his 2G to 3G but I was wondering if its a dealer job to do or a DIY? And is it expensive to do?

The dealer will not do this for you. Chances are they wont know where to start. If yo decide to do this yourself, everything that is 2G will have to be taken out. Craig is your best option, he did mine a few weeks ago, and it took a whole day to do.

Best to spend your money on having him do it for you. The cost is not cheap, but it was worth it in my book.

Ta, will maybe PM him later in the week, doubt he'll come to Northern Ireland just for the day though, from your point of view, would it be worth it, would it add any value to the car if I decided to sell in the future?

I would recommend getting on the ferry to manchester/Liverpool. It may increase the value, but not by much. I had the upgrade done as i spend alot of time in my car. Expect to pay around the £2k mark, but there are other things you can do that are cheaper, that will not require the 2G kit to come out. Have a chat with Craig and see whay your budget is.

result!

Got Audi to get warranty co to pay for a new DVD unit and they sorted it all out.

Unit was circa £1100 !!!! AND with NO sat nav DVD!!!

What a rip off!! £1100 for a DVD player!!?? AND with no free DVD!

Looks like I will have to use my "special" 2009 DVD then (just fancied an original this time)

Im gonna ask Audi for my DVD unit back - seeing as it only an intermittent problem it does work fine just the odd times it says check the disc. However, if you take the disc outand put in again, it works. (I wonder if its the copy DVD!!???)

Oh well, new unit on its way!

(yes, I did swap the disc back to the 2006 original DVD before I took to Audi!) :o

Anyone want a DVD Sat Nav unit?????
