[Audi A3/S3] Brake Upgrade for 2005 A3?

Hi people!

I've got a 2005 a3 2.0 TDI sport-3 door.

The thing is I've remapped it and its a hell of a lot faster than it was....over 200bhp now. The brakes weren't great to begin with and I have since had the old pads replaced...thinking they would be better....but they still cant cope with the extra power. I have changed my driving style a lot and have to rely on my gears too much to slow down. Also the ABS kicks in way too early...i've lost a lot of confidence in the brakes.

My brother has a bmw 320d of the same year and his brakes are 10 times better than mine.....and they aren't much bigger!

So I wanna get some bigger brakes but I have no idea which manufacturer/product to buy......is there an easy upgrade for this car? I don't wanna spend too much....in the hundreds not thousands.

I would greatly appreciate any help/suggestions......

Here is a photo of my baby by the way!

thanks for the reply.

maybe not so high end as the brembo...i was looking to spend around £500/600. I don't need racing brakes....just better ones than the standard A3! I'm getting rid of the car in a year or so...another reason why I don't wanna spend too much. I just wanna make my car safe!

any other suggestions?

my wheel size is 225/40/18"

cheers

So nobody here has got upgraded brakes on an A3?

I got the big brakes on my 3.2.

Only cost £200 for discs and about £45 for EBC pads from Evil, bay.

(ps: i put the first disc on backwards on purpose )

Put 19" RS4's on as well, just for jolly's

Are these bigger than the standard 3.2 discs, because they already fill a 17" wheel?

I don't know what brakes a TDI uses but the 3.2 brakes are very powerful.

I bowt a disc and pad set for the 3.2 from evil, bay for £175 i think.

When i got in touch about picking them up it emerged that there were two options.

Mine was (predictabley) the more expensive as they were the larger ones of the two. They then offerd to do me the biger discs and pads at cost as it was there mistake in the add.

Result.

Cant say as they're any better than the standard set tho'.

so im guessing you shat yourself with the old brakes like me?

did you change just the front brakes?

ooh look how uncurbed your rims are....give it time lol

by the way, there are new remap codes available for the 2.0 TDI at hyperchips. I cannot believe how much power they got out the car. (Welcome to Hyperchips - The Fastest Chips for your Car) finally faster than my brothers remapped 320d  I've been cacking on GTIs too its funny. Although they do not display all the remap codes on the website....the majority are for fuel efficiency so best way is to ring them.

thanks for posting the info and photos, its much appreciated.

sorry if i posted a hyperlink (i dunno if this forum frowns upon it or not) so sorry in advance to any moderators, im not spammin or anythin lol

Hi Olly,

I'm in Manchester as well! Nah I didn't "sh1t" myself with the old brakes, I just thought they were cack. The new brakes are more than capable and they look great, yes I'm running S3 rear brakes, so 310mm discs, I have a really nice set up all the way around.

I'm running a turboback exhaust (with decat) and Shark Performance custom map with green panel filter, I'm more than happy with it

p.s - I'm very careful with the wheels, so they will be staying like that

so how much you lookin at for the brake setup?

can't i just put S3 brakes on front and back?

how sweet is the 2.0tdi engine! glad to see some more remappers.

thanks for the reply

Those brakes were £1k for the front kit which is all brand new and ready to bolt on. Yes you can just do S3 brakes front and rear, yeah 2.0TDI is great.

Anymore questions just ask.

If you're on a budget of £500 to £600, you could look at ECS Tuning OEM replacement disks as an option. I ran their Stage 5 fronts and Stage 1 rears on my R32 and their OEM replacements on my S4. If you want some decent fast road pads, go for Ferodo DS2500s. They're track oriented pads, but fine for road use.
