Cupramax
I have had the worst Xmas break ever ... Serious post here, have had the most hideous chest infection over the Xmas period which has just gone on and on.... and on... well.... for ever. I started feeling a bit under the weather Xmas day and have just gone down hill since. Am now on my 5th day of antibiotics and still feel seriously crap, have a really nasty chesty cough, my lungs ache and am starting to rattle (litterally) due to the sheer amount of Beechams and various other potions and antibiotics I've been stuffing down myself. Is this ever going to end? its starting to get me down now, dont think I've ever felt so ill which is pretty unusuall for me as I very rarely ever get anything like this.... Any advice from the masses? Tempted to see the doc again tomorrow.:sauer:
CarMad
Doh, doesn't sound good. I've got a mini bout of man flue myself, ok so its just a cold but I could have done without it, I blame the wife. :D
m4ttm4son
I've always found Lemsip Max strength capsules to reduce symptoms the most whenever I have colds etc. 5 days into your anti-biotics? Sounds about right. I got a nasty chest infection two years ago and was still coughing up some nasty stuff even into the first week of anti-b's. The second week is the recovery week IIRC. How long have you been prescribed the anti-b's for? Make sure you're eating and drinking as well as you can. Get well soon

Calm Chris
Thanks mate, got 7 days worth of Penicillin... and drinking enough to keep a small village going :D I'm sure someone will confirm this, but water intake over 3L a day could be flushing the ab's straight through. Some have mentioned that the reason people shouldn't drink beer when ab's isn't to do with the alcohol, but is to do with the volume of liquid and the fact that you end up diluting and flushing the ab's out before then fully get absorbed in the system. Booster
Check its not turned into pleuresy (sp?). I had a chest infection last year that went on and if it is that, you might need more or different antibiotics.

Cupramax
Getting a little beyond a joke now, was admitted to hospital on Friday evening feeling really ill, after a fun (not) 2 nights in there I'm out now but have been diagnosed with pneumonia and am likely to be out of action for some time. How the hell anyone ever gets better in hospital I will never know, I didn't manage a wink of sleep in over 48 hours although the service was out of this world. There was an old dear in the room next to me who spent the whole time shouting various obsceneties at the nurses and generally making as much row as possible. bazza_g
Blimey dude, hope you're on the mend soon - was thinking pneumonia as I read through the thread, achey lungs and a rattle are never a good combo - all the best
Dave
Not good mate, Have you had a chest x-ray?, and have they take any flem samples to find out which antibiotic they should use? Take it easy, lots of fluids and rest!
