First Audi a8??????

hey, im new to the forum and would like your views on the audi a8, i recently got offered a 4.2 98' but think it will be too thirsty so im now looking for a 2.8.

Ive seen a 99' with 142k on the clock, facelift model (black) for £2495 (is this a reasonable price?) I have heard a flaw with the a8 can be gearbox troubles? any comments would be much appreciated, alex

Hi Alex,and welcome to the forum.

Plenty of guys on here with lots of knowledge to share,also try the A8 parts forum as well for hints and tips.

The 4.2 isn't as thirsty as you'd think (S8s are thirstier).

I was getting about 30mpg on a motorway run in mine. 2.8 is more efficient, but not too many quattro 2.8s about.

£2495 is a pretty decent price for a '99 and yes the gearboxes can be a weak point, some can grumble for ever and never break, some go with no warning and some are in the middle.

This is probably not a forum to ask for a completely balanced view on the A8 seeing as we all have one, but we know the foibles

I am considering selling my 2.8 A8 S-Line to be honest.

Just passed the MOT yesterday with no advisories, and to be honest, its one of, if not THE nicest A8 Ive seen of the age. (20" Alloys, Dvd Screens etc)
