Mook
One of our cars is currently registered with the DVLA as Mrs Mook being the registered keeper. If I change this from her to me, will this set her as the previous owner of the vehicle on the doc and increase the "former keepers" by one, or will it just change my to being my name as the registered keeper on the V5..? The address and all other vehicle info is staying the same.
Booster
Will be another keeper mate and her details will show as the previous keeper.

Scotty
What's the insurance got to do with the registered keeper? You don't need to change ownership just coz you're driving it more.

Mook
It's called previous experience from insurance companies royally fecking us around when a car was registered in my name but insured in Mrs Mook's name when it came to making a claim. Four months after agreeing a settlement figure (for some 17 year old idiot driving straight into me when I was stationary/ery at a traffic light and wrecking my back for 10+ years), they eventually agreed that we lived at the same house and were married, before making a cheque out to Mrs Mook. Not that I'm planning to make a claim. Don't question the why - just answer the goddam question

theduisbergkid
Knackers I don't think it's a problem, are you concerned about resale value with an extra keeper on the logbook ? If the previous owners name on the paperwork is your Mrs, you can explain this to any potential buyer, I don't think they'd mind.
Mook
Not really - it's a high miler workhorse that we'll be keeping til it dies when it's got 250k on the clock.

If thats the case then why worry about an extra keeper on the V5? And i did answer your question before asking one of my own! p.s) most brokers/insurers i have used over the past 5 years say that as long as the car is registered in mine or my wifes name and that we live at the same address then its not an issue. Obviously the company you dealt with were a royal PITA!

I dont know the type of people you sell cars to but im assuming they will realise its your wifes car or vice versa when the address on the V5 is the same as the house they have come to buy the car from. And yes... but for once its nice for it not to be me this time!
