Woppum
Honest post - when I see a Fezza in London I never know whether to feel sad (coz a lot of engineering and design is being wasted pootling around the City at 5mph) or to laugh (at the occupant as his fillings are rattled over all the roads that keep getting dug up for new services). This could mean I'm a grumpy old fecker but I simply don't get Ferrari's in the City. I always wonder how many ever get unleashed out of town. All I hope but I bet in reality it's just a fraction Its not just the city, you not seen what I have done with the rs! Ibiza, Monza, imola, silverstone, pan de clos, pan Amos , 9 countries - the car gets used... City is just a force of life. Everyone needs to work... Woppum
Christ alive Sam, get the CGT. And if you do, I'd like a ride. All time favourite of mine that thing but having sat in one at a motor show press day the clutch was stupidly heavy. Looking at a brand new one tomorrow at Romans. A lot of money but little to no depreciation. Thing is it is even less usable than the rs which is the opposite of what I want. The 458 is amazing. I'm amazed no one thinks I should make the change...
M8CKN
do it, do it, do it. In the grand scheme of things, you'r not trading down to a Focus..if the Ferrari isn't for you after a year, change it...it was worth a try!!!

CarMad
I see a Fezza as something fast and looks great but temperamental and fragile. I've no idea if that is the reality of ownership or just my perception, I'd get a MP4 12C if it was me but then cars are for the heart and not the head. A nice decision to make anyway and for what you are doing with the car definitely black.

It is the gtr of the Supercar world. No fun at all. A gt3 or 458 is in anther league IMHO. Could get a newish mp4 for 60k less too.. The figures show in this case IMHO. Woppum
The cgt is a posh gt3. I fancy something rapid but easier to live with. Looking at probably the best car in country tomorrow. Not much chance ill like it more than 458 though.
m4ttm4son
You're doing the right thing and keeping the Pork while you have the Fez for a bit IIRC you regretted selling the CSL so quickly when getting the GT3? Hence the M3 you have currently. Wait and get the one you want and make sure you get some pics up ASAP. Then invite us all round for some TSN pax laps of a nice tunnel run :D

jimdiesel
Can I just say that this thread is so much better than the "show us your man bag type ones". Fully understand where you are coming from Wopps. I'm a one car kinda guy, and think the 458 is a superb solution. The only other car that would fit the mould is the facelift R8 v10 plus, which whilst no were near as special as a 458, was up there with the Mac and the 458 in EVOs recent test. garcon magnifique
I also don't get why so many people on what's meant to be a car forum seem to have such a downer on Ferrari. I know for most of us we're talking about cars a world away from our driving experience* but you'd need to have a stunning lack of interest not to appreciate how much of a supercar revolution there has been in recent years. The 458 isn't just better than a 430, it's an Enzo you can use every day. Yes, it's expensive to run even compared to a Porsche, but none of the other reasons - reliability, comfort, fragility - are relevant any more. It'll be more reliable than an Aston for a start... The GT3RS is a much more specialist (as opposed to special) car, with a very specific appeal. That's why it won't depreciate as much - although if I were keeping one on that basis I'd want one with less miles on it than Wopps' ... and anyway the real keeper of that stable would be a 997.2 GT3 4.0 RS. Sure if you can afford to buy a 458 without swapping it in do so, but when the time comes that you're not using the GT3 at all, sell it. Seems to me Wopps has outlived the GT3's very specific appeal and wants an all rounder from the next shelf up. I'm a bit of a Ferrari traditionalist so it'd be rosso/tan for me (on an F12 ), but the 458 does look properly stunning in black. I think I'd go tan interior to relieve the darkness of black/black but I'd want to stick with the leather/alcantara sports seats rather than all leather. As for rivals to the 458, there are many on paper but none that match it for all those subjective intangible things. It isn't the most characterful Ferrari ever, but it still has that 'specialness'. The McLaren is very very good, but in comparison it has no soul. And Lamborghinis are just posh Audis these days... the smaller manufacturers like Pagani and Koennigsegg have taken on the mentalist mantle. *At least on here we admit that, rather than all pretending we have a multiple supercar garage and then abusing Wopps for buying the wrong one like they do on PissHeads. NewNiceMrMe
I've watched this develop with interest. An excellent thread too. I echo what is said by Jim. I would sell the RS. I can completely see the appeal of the 458. I wouldn't keep the RS as well purely because there are better ways of investing money (not that I think that needs saying, I know it doesn't). I couldn't give a toss what anyone thinks when they see a Ferrari. If they have a problem, it's their problem. So what if you can only pootle around the City in it most of the time - it's a Ferrari. It is a design and lifestyle experience as well as a driving one. I'd jump at the chance. Woppum will get to drive an icon of the motoring and design world, in comfort. He can then exploit the engineering of it when he gets the chance. The reality is that with the RS, only the latter applied. Black, with grey leather, piped in red. With a big sign on the back saying "I couldn't give a toss".
Tipex
I also don't get why so many people on what's meant to be a car forum seem to have such a downer on Ferrari. I think you're missing the point somewhat, no one has a downer on Ferrari, we are speaking relatively here, i'm sure every single member on here fully appreciates exactly what a Ferrari is, and why it's special, and would love to own one. However, Wopps already has a car that is (in my opinion at least, even if not in his) in the same league, and some of us actually think is a better car, and that's hard to admit from someone who doesn't really like the 911, and is a huge and blinkered italian car fan. That's what I feel makes this a more balanced forum, a variety of opinions, and very little willy waving, it's also a measure of the man that he hasn't come back and shat on anyone else's opinions, he's listened to them without belittling them, and then made his own choices. Also, we've not heard mention of the M3, which lets not forget, was bought as a daily runner to replace the M3 he almost immediately regretted selling for some of the same reasons he wants the Ferrari, i.e. because it was a ballache driving something 'special' through London every day. So what is to become of the M3? Will that be going? Also, Modern Ferraris have indeed come on a long way, but if you think they are going to be a reliable daily runner, you're on another planet, but I'm not sure Wopps is really bothered about that, or the running costs, and fair play to him, I hope the Ferrari is everything and more than he expects it to be! garcon magnifique
Fair comment. And you're right about the varied opinions and the fact we're all able to discuss stuff on equal terms whether our car budget is two grand or two hundred grand. I am a 911 fan, but I'm a bigger Ferrari fan. In some ways I guess I'm just glad that Ferrari are - for once - making new cars worth shouting about. IMO the 458 and F12 are two of the best new cars you can buy, vastly superior to their rivals. For me the 458 is a better car than the GT3RS because although the GT3 does one thing brilliantly, the 458 does (and is) so much more. And I do think they have reached the point of being a useable daily runner - if your pocket is deep enough.
NewNiceMrMe
Also, Modern Ferraris have indeed come on a long way, but if you think they are going to be a reliable daily runner, you're on another planet I'm not sure why you think that. The 458 has been out for over 3 years now and you can do a quick look on Pistonheads and masses of other forums to see owners using them as daily drivers. Many are doing 12,000+ miles a year in them and I haven't seen any reporting reliability issues. One guy in the USA is doing 20,000 a year, says he's had nothing but standard servicing time in the garage, and once it reaches 20,000 miles - he gets a new one. He has had three.
