ABTTJ
Hi guys, Currently after a new car... Its for my other half, max budget is 20K-ish and she wants a 335d M Sport Coupe or saloon. She likes the umph as she used to have a 3.2tt but wants a bit more economy. Test drove an SE today... very nice brilliant power delivery but she really has her heart sat on an M sport. I also prefer the look. Problems (her requirements): must have xenons, must have sat nav (factory not retro fit) and not silver. Tall order for the budget and we appreciate its going to be around the 56-07 plate region but can anyone recommend as to whether its worth spending a bit more to get the M-Sport or getting everything she wants in an SE without the look? The car test drove today was: 2007 335d SE Coupe Grey Leather Sat Nav Parking Sensors 31000 miles £19000 without negotiation. (Nice but not an M sport) All comments and recommendations are much appreciated
davyk31
If you go for a Coupe the SE will have zenons as standard. Also the 335d SE Coupe comes with a lot of the stuff the M Sport Coupe has like sports suspension and sports seats. Difference between SE and M Sport really only is the body kit. You can fit the BMW aero kit front spoiler / splitter to the SE for a couple of hundred and its looks really good , better perhaps even that M Sport. Also you will really struggle to get an M Sport coupe for your budget unless miles are huge.
ABTTJ
I didnt realise that about the suspension etc thanks for that. Spoke to the dealer today he reckons he can do the above car for £18800, refurb all the alloys and replace the silver door card trim and gear knob because its either scuffed or worn... What do you reckon? Also i see you have kids?? how practical do you find it with the kids?
davyk31
I don't use it for the kids often as we have an X5 for that but I do have 2 kids seats in the back for occasional use. For a Coupe the rear seats are quite spacious and access os good if a little slower by the time you move the electric seats. Sounds a good price for the car to be honest. What size of wheels has it ? 19s are nice and Glasses guide prices are for a car with both satnav and 19" wheels. The 335 SE models are the only ones to get the SPorts susp and seats, all other lesser models in the SE do without this and means they are best avoided. However, if you can live without the M Sport bodykit the 335 SE makes a lot of sense and saves some cash. You really should look at the BMW aero front, it just bonds to the existing bumper but looks really good. You can also change the side skirts to M Sport ones really easily for £200 or so which is what I am thinking of doing. Finally an M3 boot lip spolier is a very discrete stylish addition to the rear, they can be bought pretty cheap from various sources or even your dealer can do a genuine one for not too much. Go for it,offer the dealer 18500 which gives you a few pounds for these modifications and I bet he just might say yes.
ABTTJ
It has the thin 5 spoke 19's on it. Im goin to get a HPI/CAP/Glasses value on it this afternoon. With the kit will i need entire new bumpers? i dont want it to look like ive driven to halford and stuck some RGM splitters on it? Any suggested places to look? I really enjoy the suttle boot spoiler too and was going to consider that also... My only concern is that its a 56-plate... im not going to be able to pick the car up until the end of June and cant help but think i should hold out for longer but constant excitment and login onto autotrader every day makes me think i should grab this one. The dealer said they will hold it till then and beyond if needs be with a £2K deposit... Thats good to know about the kid's in the back, it did seem very big in the back so that awesome. Thanks for you help/advice
davyk31
No the kit does not require new bumpers, it simply goes over the bottom part of the front bumper. Go to e90post.com and the UK section, search Aero front bumper and you will see pics. Loads of guys there also have the M3 rear lip spoiler so plenty of pics. An SE with satnav and the 19s I reckon is worth more than the asking price so assuming the car is in good condition I would go for it.
ABTTJ
Thanks mate i shall check that site... I have just placed my £2000 deposit on the car. Bigger amount because they are going to hold it for until June time. Pretty pleased thanks for your advice without it i may not have gone for it.. It CAPs at trade for £18500 and Glasses at £19000 with current market conditions having used to sell cars i think ive done alright... One question regarding logic 7... how do i know if its got it? or does it come standard with the sat nav?
davyk31
Not sure on logic 7 but wouldn't think it comes with Satnav. Alpine speaker and amp upgrade is a great upgrade, about £500 fitted.
ABTTJ
Here it is anyways.... BMW Details 3 Series 335d SE Auto Diesel Automatic 2 door Coupe (2007)&postcode=cm17 9qf&make=BMW&model=3 Series&orderby=7 I think a speaker upgrade maybe a way off yet... If i do i would employ a set of Focals probably. Once again cheers for the help
Mr Man
I`v been looking at 3 series coupe`s as well....What I`d like to know is how stiff is the M-sport suspension compared to the SE`s....I`v noticed on the BMW configurator that you can delete the sports suspension if buying new....That would indicate there are punters out there that fancy the aesthetics of the M-sport but not the more sporting ride.....I`v spent the last five years riding on top of an s-line suspension set up(Audi) and to put it mildly I`am tiring of the fidgety ride.....I just fancy something a bit more compliant....but I don`t want the set up to be so soft that you feel as if your going to roll off into a ditch every-time you turn the wheel So is there anybody out there that can compare the SE/M-sport and S-line suspension set ups.....failing that I`ll just have to get my arse into gear and test drive a few motors. davyk31
Car looks great mate. Aero front would look the nuts! As regards the Mr Man, any BMW whether SE or M Sport on runflats will not ride too softly and will be fidgety. Haven;t tried it yet myself but everyone is very keen on dumping runflats. ABTTJ
Cheers mate, ive been quoted for the full M sport kit (front/rear/skirts/boot lip spoiler) supplied and fitted/sprayed for £1160??? is that any good? As for Mr Man im in similar position to you... never owned a BM before always an Audi owner so other maybe able to advise better...
gizze
The M-Sport suspension is actually a nicer ride than the SE. M-Sport = Bilstein and Eibacj set up. SE = Bodge/Sachs set up. Very crashy on poor UK roads and more wallowy on the motorway. I would get the aero lip rather than M-sport kit, costs around £400 painted and fitted and looks different to everything else out there..... OldSkoO1
I rang up about this car too Great price but i decided not to go for it in the end. Still a great buy, which almost swung me. But it was a long way from me and i didn't want the 19's. Good spec for the price, bet you can't wait
ABTTJ
hahah, yeh as i say its for the Mrs however..... I need it in my life now lol Claim might be settling earlier then expected but, we are going on holiday from the 9th till the 28th which i would gladly trade to get the car early... I did propose this and the look i got would suggest she was not so keen. Ive found the Aero splitter on ebay believe it or not for about £80 i have someone that can paint/fit it so thats pleasing! davyk31
That won't be a genuine aero front at that price unless of course its a second hand genuine one. The copy ones are often cheap fibreglass that breaks easily and also can be a poor fit. The genuine one fits snuggly with no unsightly gaps as I have seen pics of some of the copy spoilers. Depends how fussy you are but I looked at all the options and decided to go genuine and spend the money and don't regret it at all.
ABTTJ
I totally agree... The last thing i want is it to look tacky. Where did you buy your geniune splitter from? if you dont mind me asking?
davyk31
I bought from my main dealer but there are some online places that sell the genuine item. Have a search on e90post.com where the threads on the aero front list a few suppliers. From memory the genuine part from a dealer is about 200 plus paint and fitting, I paid 350 which seemed steep and I was very undecided about spending the money but love the look now. As others have said it makes the car different as so few have the aero front and to my eyes it looks better than the M Sport as it blends better.
