Osama
I'm trying to find out if anyone has had experience with BMW's regarding the Dual Mass Flywheel. My other half had a brand new 320i in May 2009, after about a month of ownership she said to me that the car would judder when she was pulling away from stationary, with the clutch fully out she said it would do it in first and second gear, I drove the car when she came back from work and could not fault it, I said "it must be your driving". Any way a few weeks later whilst I was passenger with her the whole car started to judder, I watched exactly what she was doing with her feet to make sure she wasn't slipping/riding the clutch and as she had explained right from the very start the clutch was fully disengaged. At this point I said to her that the problem was the dual mass flywheel, I've been in the motor trade for 15 years and with my experience of similar characteristics on other cars I was sure that this was to blame. So at two months old the car went into our Local BMW dealer, my other half told them what was happening and that it was intermittent. They had the car for the day and said that they couldn't find any faults. This went on for months and it didn't matter who was driving but it kept occasionally doing it. I spoke to a friend who is a qualified Audi mechanic, I explained to him what was happening and he said straight away Dual Mass Flywheel, its common with this type of Flywheel. At the first service she mentioned again to the service advisor that the car was still juddering to the point where it was unbearable. Again reply from BMW "We can't find any problems with the car".!!! Just over a year later with the fault still clearly present I told my other half to take the car into BMW and leave it with them until the problem had been resolved as it was not acceptable. Just having the car for the day and not letting a technician take it home/use it to find the problem. To cut along story short!!! BMW and an independent assessor say "Its driver error" I would like anyone not just with a BMW comment on their experiences with reference Dual Mass Flywheel's. Tipex
If it was the flywheel, then imo, it wouldn't be an intermittent fault, they are either ok, or knackered. I'd suggest it could be a faulty injector, but obviously having not been in the car, I can't know if it felt like a mechanical juddering or feuling issue (you can usually tell the difference). When a dual mass flywheel goes, it's always acompanied by horrendous rattling noises when depressing/releasing the clutch, never had one on our fleet that didnt rattle. Maxien78
Hi. I found this thread whilst searching for solutions to the problem im having with my Renault Megane Scenic. I have had simular problems to this. When in low gears the car judders violently and i have to fully press the clutch to stop it. The car literally shakes back and forth quite violently. Also when idleing the car will slightly judder. Someone had told me that the car sounded as though the clutch was on its way out and i hadn't even mentioned anything about the problems i was having so im wondering if he could be right. The clutch engages and disengages really well, im not sure what is meant by it slipping, but i have had no problems changing up and down gear and it doesn't make any noises when changing gear. I know nothing about cars and am female and where i live mechanics wouldn't think twice about ripping me off if i were to take the car in for them to look at so i really could do with some help to find my problem before i take it in to be sorted. I also don't want to be spending a lot of money on having something done that doesn't need to be done. I posted my problem on another forum this morning and someone mentioned the duel mass flywheel. Maxien78
I forgot to mention that my car is a Renault Megane Scenic 1.6 petrol and has done just under 135k miles.
manderson
I think there can be issues with clutch judders on the 3series manuals. I've read stories of clutch replacements still juddering? Sounds like the discription given. As said above a flywheel would be shot or be ok. Everyone ive heard thats knackered makes alot of noise so its fairly obvious
