I think this thread describes my recent problems as well - Loud annoying beep and Christmas lights - luckily my park brake was stuck off, not on, so I could get home

Currently at an auto electrician who is trying to determine if its the pressure sensor or the ECU, on the faulty side.

Does anyone know how much a new ECU is - it seems likely this will be the fault....

to continue the thread - oh cock - its the sensor! Not available as a single part, so it needs to be the whole caliper at the bargain price of £600 (plus fitting)

Goes in the specialist tomorrow :-(

Is it me or should you never buy into a new model before the manufacturer has had time to fix all the problems? I'm hearing this is quite a common problem on the pre-facelift D3's , so of course there are no scrap calipers available...

Some interesting experiences here, being a newbie to A8 heaven, I heard my nearside rear caliper cycling in and out a few times, after I had parked, applied the handbrake, turned the engine off and locked it with the off side rear door handle. It went on for quite a few cycles. When I got back in the car a bit later the handbrake was showing off. It's just come out of the stealer, who said the noise was nothing to worry about, the brakes carryout a calibration test and set every 1000Kms. We'll have to wait and see about that.

But then this is the garage that tried to tell me the drivers door wasn't shutting due to air pressure, it turned out to be that the door needed adjustment. Got it back today and it seems a lot better.

Why do main Dealers tell such lies and take everyone for idiots, they don't realise that they just loose custom in the long run. I have ot say it's not just Audi either.

I replied to this thread earlier and now I find that my car is in the Dealers with a Parking Brake Fault!

It's intermittent so I hope it shows up in the Fault Codes or they'll just not believe me!

It's also in for the 3rd time for an airbag fault - now they decided it's the Control Unit at fault.

Previously the Headlamp Squirters were stuck out and one of the door lock little buttons was U/S. Small things but annoying, good job my office is just round the corner from the Dealer's.

I'm minded to exchange it for a Merc or even a Lexus as it'll be out of Warranty soon and Audi prices to extend are high.

Oh the joy of owning a premium car - they're great to drive, but when something goes wrong, oh boy does it cost...

Mine came with a 5 year service contract, which proved to be FANTASTIC value for money, as once the warranty ran out, everything got done anyway under the wear and tear side of the service contract - if you can get that on your car, its well worth it!

Otherwise you can pay to extend the warranty - I think its about £800 a year. I took the view of putting £800 a year in the bank and so far I'm quids in..... just!

The only thing I will say about main dealers is they do do everything under one roof (from the customers perspective) - I had to do a lot of running around between the Auto electrician (who correctly diagnosed the fault) and the specialist (who fitted the caliper and did the original diagnostic) with a net saving of about £50

Now obviously the caliper at £600 was the lions share of the bill, but the running around was a pain!

Anyway, upshot is - mine is paid for, and needs a major service in the next couple of months - so if she stays reliable I'll keep her for another year or so - if she lets me down again, it'll be time for a trade. All I know for sure is I had a lexus for 7 years and it NEVER let me down once, and the main dealer was a pleasure......
