Hi Fizzbit

Having the garage was a nice luxury! Its turned out really nice!

Im suprised how good the bodywork looks in those photos for an N reg there does not appear to be any obvious dents or anything.

Shame some of the wheels have got pitting, as you have a few you should get some refurbed and then keep them when you but the next MR2! The garage has a few other MR2's as well?

Cheers Mr Windy,

Yeah the body work is in very good nick considering its age with hardly any dings etc but the paint has loads of swirl marks as expected.

With regards to the rims i have a set of rare gold Volk 16" staggered rims in the garage collecting dust. One of them has a crack in the inside lip which needs repairing but im too lazy to drive up to York to drop it off to be sorted. As its forged magnesium alloy not many places will touch it.

Dibbs & Tarmac - Cheers guys, the car really handnt been cleaned properly before in years it seems.

A mate of mine has told me to go over to his as he wants to try out some Harly wax on it to see how it comes out. Will be going over this weekend all being well so will give it another once over with some SRP and then the Harly Wax.

Windy - is it just a case of grabbing the corse sand paper out to get rid of the baked on brake dust followed by smooth sand paper?

Hi Fizz

It depends on how bad the brake dust damage is, it often ends up pitting the wheel and damaging the metal. Home fixes rarely turn out that great, it just depends if you have some time and if you dont really need the wheels.

Theres two things you can do; One is to sand the wheels, wet sand method and back to the metal. Prep the metal with alchol mix and get some Wurth Wheel Silver and some Wurth Wheel Clean Coat. Tape of the tyre and spray a few layers of silver then after the time disignated on the can apply the clearcoat.

I did this on our old Crossfire which my wife left in the garage wet after a drive in the harsh winter on salty roads then returned to the UK. When i got back to the US in the spring the bottom of the alloys were ruined.

They looked pretty good from a distance and something that took about 3 hrs to do i was pretty happy. Applying SRP after a few weeks made them look even better. However, you could still tell it was a bodge if you were being particular.

The second thing you can do is to strip them of the paint totally. However this requires some kind of acid dip and the tyre has to come off. But then you can just get some metal polish and dremel style attachments and buff metal. It will then become somewhat shiney and reflective (think of duller version of the chrome-mag look). The only problem is that they are exposed to the elements and you need to keep up with protecting them from the elements or the wheel will become damaged.

Let us know what you think of the Harley wax.

Thanks for the in depth post and after reading that i think the rims dont deserve such time and effort! :roflmao:

Im dropping the cracked volk rim off in York tomorrow morning and it should be back with me in 2/3 working days he said.

Then its a case of getting some rubber on them and taking it from there. +++

The car looks lovely....until those wheels were put on it.

As an original MR2 I looked at that and thought it looked great. Then I saw the wheel change and thought it ruined it. I just think it brings it down a class and mean no offence with that. Its such a nice looking example with the originals.

No offence taken mate. +++

Ive had MR2s on and off for over 7 years now and the standard rims look pretty pants to be honest. These rims in particular are very rare light weight racing rims and as such demand kudos from those in the know about Volks.

The car belive it or not feels more nimble with them as they are a fair bit lighter than the standard rims.

I like to be a bit different so having a set of rare volk rims that no one else on the forums has is something i prefer to having the same bland rims as the rest of the standard MR2 brigade.

Mr Wind.. cheers mate. +++
