davidhodgkinson
Like mentioned above, it's the battery in the alarm sounder. The sounder is in the rear of the car, in the OS cubby hole in the boot. It's a common fault.

I had a choice of getting a replacement turbo at £1,600 or wait and then would probably have to shell out £5,000 for a new engine. Here is the thread I started: http://www.tyresmoke.net/forum/audi-a3-s3-cabrio/127504-need-my-mind-put-rest-new-turbo.html Not quite what you would want to hear, but hope it helps. Get it checked out by the dealer. Is there still a warranty on the car. Simon.
bazza_g
Get it checked out by the dealer. Is there still a warranty on the car.Simon. Sounds like the OP only bought it a couple of days ago so I'd advise heading straight back there for them to fix at their expense
audiquatt
hey guys whose round is it? lol....ok i took it back to the dealer who said thats how its suppose to sound even though we compared it to another A3 which did not sound the same..he then claimed that the 170 had a bigger turbo than the 140 model hmmmmm thats why the 170 made that sound...i thought the turbos were exactly the same??? anyway i,m taking it Audi to get their take on things the dealer who i bought it off had said that he will replace the turbo if it is confirmed but to be honest i want a refund on the car as i have no confidence left in the car...... Vic
Hi All My 55 A3 2.0 140 TDI has made the Owl hoot/police siren noise from new. Now at 82k miles the noise is about twice as loud and covers a slightly wider (around 200RPM) rev band centred around on 1400rpm. It's fairly inoffensive and I beleive its the freely spinning turbo vanes at what are very low revs, not blowing, causing resonance in the intercooler inlet piping similar to blowing across the top of a bottle. (Squeezing the rubber inlet pipes changes the note). With careful application of the throttle when stationary I can make it wolf whistle! I reckon my turbo is very nicely run in and spinning very freely. When it stops making the noise, I'll worry! Vic
Thought I'd rekindle this thread purely for reference/interest. Â I still have the car, it's now done 128,000 miles. The turbo still makes the same noise and all is working fine. Â As for the rest of the car, everything is original except for the radiator which sprung a small leak and the front nearside outer CV boot which I Â both replaced myself this year. Â When I say everything, I mean everything, even the front disks and pads which are only very slightly worn. Â Yes, the car's had a pretty easy life as marked by its lifetime average fuel consumption figure of 57MPG Â Vic

patently
Not just your car, my Disco often makes me turn around just as I'm walking across my driveway, as it sounds as if Plod has arrived to pick me up.  Car is new, 6 months or so old.  I'll try and pop back in 2016 to let you know if it's still doing it  Did someone say it was someone's round? Andrew
Pah, amateur. My LCR has done 116k and has been with me from its life as a dealer demo in Sept 03. I've done 110k of those miles and it is still going strong - aside from an annoying leak when it rains. Â Never heard any sirens though.

Andrew
Yes, had someone look at the leak at the beginning of the year and they thought they fixed it - the door rain guides were full of gunk. I did give the chap a link to a door seal fix but he said it was something else.
Cuprabob
Worth looking at the pollen filter housing as that's where mine leaked. The water off the windscreen flows down the scuttle right over the top of it. Back in the day Seat had to replace all my carpets under warranty due to water ingress from there. 116k miles in 10 years is nothing. I bought mine new when they came out in late 2002 and sold it early 2006 with 80k miles
