NightKID
Help!!! Thanks guys in advance for reading this post.:D My ride is Audi A4 2.0T 2009 B8 purchased from Audi Melbourne near RMIT in the CBD. Everything is good except it has serious Engine Oil burning problem. When I just got car last March, the Engine Oil light turned on at 2000KM, so I took the car back dealer and wanted to find out what is going on. My dad even asked me to exchange to a different car. The Service Manager showed me on the manual saying it is possible to burn up to 0.5 liter of Engine Oil every 1000KM. When the light is on, it indicates it used up 1 liter of oil, in my case, 2000KM, which is normal. Fair enough, I had nothing to say since the manual said so. Even it is not happening to every 2.0T engine, it’s my bad luck and I gave up arguing with them. Fast forward to this year, my car has run almost 20,000KM now. In the past year, I have to fill up engine oil every 2000KM, very annoying. And my exhaust pipe is as dark as charcoal. Even my car park floor is black now under and behind the exhaust. The cleaner in the building was accusing me polluting the car park floor. In recent months, roughly after the car has run over 15,000KM, I have to fill up every 1000KM. Even worse, yesterday the Engine Oil light turns on again, this time, only 700KM!!! It’s getting worse and worse. I have tried many times with the dealer Audi Melbourne and every time I got different answers, but leading to the same result: No Resolution! When the car was new, I was asking for an exchange or refund, it didn’t happen because the Owner’s Manual said it is normal. Second, early this year, after Audi asked the dealer to run a few consumption tests, Audi admitted there is a problem and might looking to replace the engine. It didn’t happen either because a few weeks later the Dealer said it is actually the Bypass system is the problem. It cannot feed the engine oil back to engine and got wasted from exhaust. Alright, did they replace that? No. I thought I was waiting for the Bypass System to be shipped from Germany (Coz they said so). Then I had no reply for another 2 months and I had to chase it up again. This time I was told by the dealer that it was actually a common problem for all the 2.0T engines and Audi has working on it. How ridiculous! That means I have to wait forever. Last attempt: I went back to the dealer and told them off. I told them waiting is not a solution and I can’t believe Audi treat their customers like this. Then I got another answer. The service manger told me there is already solution in other countries but because Australia has very strong regulation on imported vehicles, Audi is trying to pass the regulation and localize the solution. Thanks for your patience reading this long post. I just want to know is there anyone out there like me, having the same problem and want to get it resolved. We can unite together and try to work out something with Audi. If you car is new and is having similar engine oil problem, but now that bad, I warn you that it will only get worse, not better. DanG
My B8 2.0T Quattro Avant used a litre only after 8,000 miles. There is something wrong with your engine for sure. Is is visibly smoking when running? Chrome tail pipes do go black with time....
Scotty
My B8 2.0T Quattro Avant has had a dribble put in for it's 5k miles....only because I was looking at the oil level indicator and thought I'd top it up although it didn't really need it. It seems you've waited and waited between complaints and that won't help. Take it up with Audi Australia's customer services. Give them all the details as above and tell them you expect it resolved. It's under warranty and it's not performing correctly. Ask when you should expect to hear back from them and then hold them to it. You certainly shouldn't be having this issue with a new car. Good luck.
cruiser647
Also, are you putting in the correct oil? Apologies if it seems a daft question.

Is is visibly smoking when running? Chrome tail pipes do go black with time.... Audi said the engine oil has not been feeding back to the engine and got wasted from exhaust. But there is no running smoke. Audi does not admit there is any problem with engine, only the bypass system is not function properly. But they don't know when can be fixed. What a Audi service! Hillbeley
I also have a 2009 B8 2.0T Avant M8, which has always burnt oil (20l in 112000Km + the oil from 3 services), since 80K I have been burning plugs too, after the 4th set at 112K the dealer accepted this was not just bad plugs and investigated. Audi in the UK accepted the problem but won't change the engine, it is instead carrying out a mod to the combustion chambers involving new pistons, coming from Germany! It is due back next week, after 3 weeks at the dealer. Come to think of it, it always irritated me that I had spent money on chrome tips and they never stayed clean longer than a day. Mmmmm! Scotty
Audi very rarely swap an engine. They'd much rather send parts and get the dealer to do it. I've heard of quite a few examples of them doing this. How comes it's Audi in the UK accepting this problem but you've quoted the distance in km and not miles ?? TIDYDUBS
I'd have thought a new engine would be cheaper than replacing the pistons! The technically correct repair would be a short engine!!!!! Fecking Audi......bite the Fecking bullet man jesus H christ!!!! They would get paid for stripping and repairing and they use DISS as well.....so factory are well aware as are Technical support!!!!

I have a 2010 A4 and am having this oil issue, Audi Australia is taking responsibility and are carrying out this mod of new pistons. Did this fix your problems? Do you think I should try getting a refund on the car since the car is only 3 months old? PLEASE HELP ANYONE!!!!
Sarge786
If the car is only 3 months old I wouldn't accept a repair, I'd want a refund or change of car! Demand It! I believe in some countries if you accept a repair, then you lose your right to refund, so get it refunded or Changed Edited August 12, 2011 by Sarge786

I have a new 2011 model A4 AVANT - same problem re the oil. It's had Valves replaced & did not work, now it's about to have the Pistons replaced at 8000 Kms, IT's BRAND NEW! Although I am very disappointed the Audi Dealership has been completely satisfactory and accommodating to the problem. I just wonder if you have seen an improvement with yours now? Cheers. Jambo102
Hi All, Is anyone aware if Audi are getting closer to accepting that they have a major problem with these cars? I can still see issues everywhere but I dont see anyone making any great progress towards getting this issue fixed.
Andy_Bangle
Audi do have a fix, of sorts. It involves a firmware upgrade to increase the oil pressure and a new pump/filter design. My MY2011 car used 4l of oil in 10,000 Km. Audi took it in at first service and measured 'exactly' how much oil they they put in, after 1000 km I took the car back and they re-measured the oil. My car was using something like 3l/10k but said this is acceptable and will carry out the above upgrade.
Bikertov
I am also having oil consumption issues - A4 Cabriolet, 2.0T FSi, 2007 (B7 ?). So far, I have used around 5 litres in about 6,000 miles - not acceptable in my opinion. But Audi seem to think that 1 litre every 1,000 is totally normal, so won't do anything about it. JayJay52
My A4 2.0L TFSI uses oil as well - though on thought I think it only started doing so after the first service at 20K miles. I put in 1/3L once a month and cover 1500 miles in that time. I recall a problem some time back with a blocked (crankcase rebreather?) pipe that may be related. I think it was once a common fault. Alicef
I bought a new audi q5 2.0t in 2010. I had a serious oil consumption problem which they kept telling me that it will be fixed. After 1 year I sold the car as I was sick of topping up the oil and the issue was yet to be fixed. The sales people pretended they did not know about this issue and say that other manufacturers have a similar problem - which is total lies. I got no response from audi australia in regards to my complaint. All Audi 2.0t use oil. If you don't want the hassle sell the car like I did. Only the 3.0l is worth it. However how many old audi's do you see on the road? The answer is none. They are only good for 5 years' max and then they are too costly to fix. Disappointing as they are a nice looking car.
