Because it is Tyresmoke and that is what we do!! ;)

I know John was concerned about getting hit hard with the big D if he bought a late M5, so I presumed the same concern would be there with a 550i, so thought I should mention it. I just think space grey is a colour that has been done alot over the last 5 years on BMWs, as silver grey had been before that, and now many see the dark grey as the desirable one, especially on the new shape.

Also, the touring is a real sleeper and always gets far, far more money on the used market, as John always has saloons he probably doesn't realise just how big the gap can be.

All these things are worth mentioning when someone is about to flop just short of £60,000 down on a 5 series. ;)

Well said, I am seriously thinking to "drop the order" now TBH.

WHAT?!?!?!

Look, I've said it in my "Changing the habit of a lifetime" thread in General Cars - I don't give a toss what someone thinks about what I buy - I buy a car for me.

I know, it's totally selfish... :P

Have done before. Doesn't mean you keep having to?

Aha - "presume" - maybe you could have asked him..?

Why the feck can't you lot just accept that the car spec is what Golfer is happy with - he hasn't bought the car for you

To be honest, I was a bit surprised with the comments too. Space Grey is one of THE best BMW colours... if we all wanted a sensible, kind on depreciation vehicle, we'd all be driving 4 pot diesels with low CO2.

Oh dreary me! Do we really have to spell it out that any comments about colour choice are little more than taking the mick?

I really wouldn't choose Space Grey on any BMW (too flat, like the old Audi Dolphin Grey), but clearly John likes it and that is absolutely fine. I think the Oyster interior is very, very nice by the way, especially if contrasted with black trim/carpets. Again, entirely personal choice.

As for comments about depreciation etc, I see this place as a community - we might all be terribly keen to offer our own opinions about stuff, but in this case it's also influenced by a wish not to see one of our number lumbered with a hugely expensive mistake.

John - my honest advice, which you're welcome to ignore! DON'T cancel the order. It's a seriously impressive car that I think, based on your car history, you'll truly enjoy. As for potential resale value, again purely based on your car history you're a man of some means - enjoy it and worry about the numbers later! (But try to keep it for more than a year eh?! )

Well i got a good quote on my M3 and a discount on the new car with 5 years servicing ect, so I am sticking with it.

It is an "Up market" move by BMW on this model ( so they say) and this coupled to the few expected orders,IMO RV will not be as "Savage" as people think. I don't mind criticism IF you've taken all the facts in.

 Thats for your input, I looked at the colours on offer and TBH I have just had AWhite and the dark greys and Black do need loads of cleaning which I must admit I am tiring of.

So Space Grey with the Oyster, I have seen this combo and though not "outstanding" it does look nice. Time will tell but this could be a real flyer (if the right ECU upgrade comes out) and have some economy as well with this 8 speed box.+++
