Andy_Bangle
If you were surprised Audi chose to forgo the S1 nameplate for the top-spec version of the A1 premium hatch, hold on to your hats, because the rumour mill is spinning up again. This time, reports direct from Germany suggest that Ingolstadt may choose to skip the S1 altogether and go straight to the top with a new RS1. The move would necessitate the adaptation of the A1's chassis to accommodate all-wheel drive as previously reported, with power potentially coming from the same 2.0-litre TFSI engine found in the Volkswagen Golf GTI, and the Mini Cooper JCW in its sites. A series of visual upgrades would undoubtedly distinguish the RS1 from its more pedestrian stablemates, with reports tipping its arrival for early 2012. garcon magnifique
Would Audi really devalue their most sought after badge by sticking it on a shopping trolley?? Yep, course they would...

Andy_Bangle
Audi already had plans to re-engineer its PQ25 platform to allow for all-wheel drive production and manufacture of the Polo R and CrossPolo model (and allow for Audi to also build an S1 model (RS1?) with Quattro). PetrolDave
I would be very surprised if Audi skip the S1, Ford & Vauxhall have shown that having a "warm" as well as a "hot" hatch is needed to fill all the niches - which is what Audi seem to be aiming to do now.
