RRH685
Hi guys, recently had the MMI user ECU replaced and now have two new options in the cd changer menu; Previously I could only choose between CD changer and TV (which is analogue so doesn't work), now I have aux one and aux two listed. Does this suggest there's already some sort of interface? Want to add ipod but am, sadly, somewhat financially embarassed atm.... Cheers
PsYcHe
Yep.. kufatec.de do the cable you need to add phono inputs to your MMI (sotware update is what turned it on). They're about £10 each but delivery isn't cheap, so it's more cost effective to buy 3 at once (2 input, 1 output) than decide to do it later. RRH685
excellent, you've just made my day... thank you. Where do they plug in?
Limoncello
They plug in to the tuner in the left hand side of the boot, you need to drop the NAV DVD down (dont disconnect it) pull out the big red plug on the tuner, open it, put the pins in and put it all back together. only problem for you is - you can plug in the ipod and it will work but it will be in the boot, controlling it wont be easy. i have a freeview tuner in mine which works via remote control, does movies and mp3's too, though i dont use it for music. if you like your music you may be better of putting the AMI system in, got mine on ebay for £
PsYcHe
What he said ^^^.. Or just a very long and fiddly Phono cable I had my ipod in an AMI (just swaps out for the CD changer), but now have an HDD.
Limoncello
yes i use the audi 250gb hard drive too, but if you're really set on doing it the cheapest way you could run a long cable from the boot, wouldnt be very pretty without taking half the car apart to hide the cable. RRH685
Ok, sounds like AMI is the way to go. Is this the right one? Do I need anything else? Cheers Simon.
Limoncello
Thats the one, its got everything you need, i didnt have the loom at the time so i took out the cd changer and put in the AMI, straight swap takes 5 minutes, probably 20 minutes if you want to keep your changer and fit the loom as well, i didnt see much point in it. mine started working straight away as i was using the same position as my changer was in, if you keep both you will also need access to VAGCOM to update the gateway with the new position. install is easy just do a search theres loads of threads on it, i was presuming you updated the MMI to the latest firmware, if not you might want to check if its ok with the AMI, I cant remember offhand its worth it though the sound is fantastic.
