DTM
Hi to all, Just registered and im new to forums (and their etiquette!) so please forgive any noob errors! I wondered if anyone has, or has had a DTM edition? Just bought mine in November, and though I consider myself pretty knowledgeable on car models - I had never heard of the model. Always been a fan of audis, and craved an RS4 so when I saw mine gleaming on the forecourt (in RS4 sprint blue, with RS4 alloys) action had to be taken! Have to say, enjoying every minute driving it, a good balance of comfort, performance equipment and styling. And of course with only 250 right hand drive models built (of which only 60 in blue) theres a nice splash of exclusivity in the mix. Be happy to through up some pics if anyone was interested Edited February 2, 2011 by DTM further question

Mook
IIRC, it's a 1.8T with 200PS? and a body kit, sharper suspension and one-off wheels? Pics please :D Welcome to Tyresmoke, by the way
Sarge786
Mine is Sprint Blue too! they are 2.0TFSi and 220bhp and yes specific styling with bumpers and various other trim, with Carbon fibre inserts, spoilers etc.. Here a few pics of mine Cheers Sarge Here's a little article I read on it: Audis A4 2.0T FSI DTM Special Edition Represents The Sort Of Celebration We Like. Andy Enright Reports Now this is more like it. I recall attending the launch of Audis A4 2.0T FSI and coming away with the impression that in marketing their 4.2-litre V8 S4 as the flagship sporting model in the range, Audi were shooting themselves in the foot. The two-litre engine was a far better basis for a sports car than the heavyweight eight and it seems the top brass at Audi are coming round to this way of thinking. The special edition A4 2.0T FSI DTM is a definite step in the right direction. The 200bhp engine fitted to the standard A4 2.0T has been fettled to produce 220bhp in DTM edition form, with torque rising from 280NM to 300Nm. Granted, this isnt a dramatic step up in power but its enough to slash the sprint to 60-mph to 6.8 seconds and register a 153mph top speed. This puts the DTM special edition among the forefront of sporting compact executive models although youll have to pay for the privilege, the £29,980 asking price being significantly higher than some more focused sports saloons. Perhaps there is a niche for this sort of car. If youve grown out of an Impreza or an Evo and are looking for something with a little more sophistication but which can still turn on the excitement, then the A4 has a claim. Built to celebrate Audis landslide championship victory in the 2004 German Touring Masters (DTM), just 250 examples will be imported which should guarantee a certain exclusivity. Although its not as edgy as the 455bhp A4 DTM race car that helped Audi sweep the driver, team and manufacturer trophies in 2004, its no shabby performer in its own right. "This is comfortably the best sporting model Audi currently produce" Its also nicely differentiated from the rest of the line up, although one must question how long it will be before Audi incorporate many of the DTMs features into the rest of the A4 line up. Audi have form here and those with keen memories may well remember the debacle that surrounded the TT S-Line. Nevertheless, for those who want to be first, the DTM edition offers a number of worthwhile touches. Eighteen-inch five-spoke wheels and lowered sports suspension combine to give that authentic touring car stance, with the tyres virtually overwhelming the wheel arch apertures. A redesigned front bumper with bigger air intakes to cool the uprated brakes is also a welcome addition and its finished off with a black carbon fibre chin spoiler. Theres a lot of small detailing about the DTM special edition thats particularly delightful. The door mirrors can be finished in contrasting Phantom Black at no extra cost while at the sides there are DTM embossed sill strips. Larger diameter 100mm exhaust pipes signal the cars intent within a revised bumper assembly that also incorporates extra air intakes and a racing-style diffuser. The interior has also been given the once over with silver piped floor mats, Recaro sports seats with leather bolsters and silver stitching. A three-spoke sports steering wheel is trimmed in leather and Nardia microfibre, while the handbrake lever and gear knob are also finished in Nardia. Carbon fibre inlays from the Audi S4 also make an appearance on the instrument panel and door trims. The first Audi engine to combine turbocharging with Fuel Stratified Ignition, this powerplant borrows features from diesel engines, such as common rail injection, and utilises a single piston high-pressure fuel pump. The high-pressure fuel line mounted on the side of the cylinder head injects fuel straight into the combustion chamber. The shape of the pistons and the clever working of a set of valves make the air tumble, thus creating more efficient combustion. Where FSI engines really impress is their behaviour under part throttle loads. Whereas before, part throttle meant just that, partially strangulating the output by closing a butterfly valve, the FSI system can be run with the throttles in a more efficient open position by creating a rich fuel mix directly next to the spark plug and a leaner mix in other parts of the combustion chamber. This is not only more efficient in terms of how much fuel enters the chamber in the first place but it also means that less energy is wasted as heat to the cylinder block. In effect a blanket of air shields the ignited fuel from the walls of the cylinder. When the throttle is pressed wide open, the engine reverts to a more conventional homogenous method of filling the combustion chamber with fuel and air. The tumble effect and the synchronisation of air and fuel along with the careful metering of the high-pressure injection system all combine to offer more power and a cleaner engine. When youre dawdling, you get great economy and when you want to drop the hammer, youve got more power. Safety features include Audis active locking head restraints that automatically minimise the distance between the restraint and the head in a rear crash situation. New two-stage intelligent airbags are now fitted for the driver and front passenger and theres a much cleverer DVD-based satellite navigation system for those who want it. As ever, the fascia ergonomics are predictably perfect, the quality breathtaking. As good as the A4 2.0T FSI DTM special edition is, it would have been nice to see more. Power edging up to over 250bhp and a DSG sequential gearbox would have been welcome but maybe thats to come. For the time being at least, this DTM model is the best sporting A4 Audi make. Milo
From what I can remember the DTM is basically the same as the special edition s-line that followed it a few months later but with some carbon fibre bits and alacantara (Recaros) rather than leather. It also had the front fogs deleted in lieu of the air vents. New, it had a huge premium (30%?) over the s-line however I think used values are only marginally more now. I test drove one before I ordered my se s-line as it was the only A4 that had the same 220PS engine.

For me, the only thing lacking is Quattro, but then it wouldn't be a DTM replica would it Welcome to the forum btw

adamski74
Hi All! I got my DTM just under a month ago and have to say i'm loving it! The comparisons with th e s-line special edition are slightly unfair since we get S4 seats, storage pack, awesome bumpers, light pack, custom sills, Audi exclusive paint (a £2500 extra on the S-line) etc etc plus mine has bose, auto lights, winter pack etc? Ok its still an s-line undernieth but I personally really like all these touches and have since retrofitted RNS-e and a B8 MFSW in it to finish it off. While i'm on about it the first thing on the list was to get it to MRC in banbury on the RR to see what it does stock. Mine managed just under the 220bhp stock (70k miles) and mapped up to 259bhp/400NM the car is transformed! Guys in there pointed out that the lack of fogs gets more air to the intercoolers and if i put in vents behind the arches (like the B5 S4, TT, S3) the extra flow should see 10bhp and with a cat delete pipe (£30 USA eBay) and some Silicone hosing it could make near 300?? All in all i love the car and happily traded the S-line special edition i had in for it. I see the version as a "poor mans RS4" it has the looks, colour, and enough performance/economy to satisfy someone like me who just cant afford to buy/run the RS4 i really want :0 Glad you are all enjoying them!
