Mort
Anyone here know how to get sunscreen off paintwork. I am at my wits end with this.... I have kids handprints all over my car. I've tried everything I can think of... washing, polishing, petrol, white spirt, WD40, maximum elbow grease.... It looks like it comes off but a few days later it appears again.... Any ideas ? steelwind101
Hello The problem could one of two things: Paintwork is porus, some of the lotion (oils) could have been obsorbed in to the clearcoat leaving a stain. Its possible that product which cleans below the paintworks surface could help. This would be something like Klasses All-In-One or Meguiars paintwork Cleansers Step 1. However, depending on what was in the suntan lotion you may find you have acutally "etched" the clearcoat. I have seen various posts before on the internet where this has been the case. You will probably need to use a selection of abrasive polishes to restore the finish to its best. If you have something like Meguiars ScratchX on hand (a paintwork cleaner and abrasive) then you can attack it from both view points and probably improve the situtation! Mort
I think its the titanium oxide which is in the sunscreen. It reacts with the clear coat.... I've been googling the subject and it looks like I may need to polish it out with some form of abrasive as you say Geoff. I'll have a look at the Meguiars Scratchx product....maybe contact them for advice. Need to do something cos the car is a bloody mess at the moment. Mort
I managed to sort this out this weekend with simple polish and a electric buffer. It didnt seem to work by hand but the machine done it fine. I'm pleased because it was all over the car and was a right mess.
