Just had a thought. Some poor sod is going to buy these cars in 6 months or a years time. My fiesta was brand new with only 150kms on the clock. It spent the next 400kms bouncing off the red line in 2nd gear. That car may need a litre of oil or two now and again. Not to mention a new wheel:confused:

Ouch... hope you have a copy of the hire agreement with the "super no-excess cover" box checked !

This ^^^

Bloody 'ell mate.. i hope you get it sorted.

Also remember that we never got a walk around with any staff member when given the keys which is a big no no. As per the email i got after complaining about my service with them it was confirmed that all cars must be checked prior to handing them over and as we know mine wasn't checked.

What damage exactly have they billed you for?

Here is an extract of the email i got from one of their customer service bods for what its worth.

I can confirm that prior to any rental taking place, the Rental Station should carry out a series of checks to ensure that the vehicle is prepared for the rental. These checks are called ‘Ready for Rent’ checks, and involve the vehicle being cleaned, topped up with fuel and inspected for any new damage following the previous rental.

When the hire is terminated, the Stations will record all new damage, however minor, on the Rental Agreement. This procedure ensures that we do not charge the wrong client for the cost of repairing the vehicle, should it become necessary to do so.

I am very sorry that on this occasion this process was not followed by the Station and that you had to inform the Station of the damage to the vehicle, only for the Agents to keep you waiting before providing a different vehicle. Please rest assured that I have raised this matter with our colleagues in France to ensure that the right level of feedback is provided to the Station concerned. I can confirm that no charges have been billed for damage.

Even on the invoice it states the full insurance that I took out so they are being very stupid. Fizz that's going to be my second point that the damage must have already been there as no walk around. The invoice doesn't even state what the damage is. Of course I have no idea-)

Fizz who was your point of contact? The French office or UK?

The day after we got back I got an email from europcar asking for feedback to which I sent them my full honest disappointed experience.

You should have it... My paperwork stated specifically no damage when it had a massive graze on the rear wheel arch and an egg in the sidewall of the front tyre.

Yep. My account was credited the refund on Tuesday. Their description makes it sound like everything is totally covered but the way its worded means you could still be liable to pay excess to damaged glass and tyres. Got away with it on a technicality as none of us were given a walk around prior to driving off.
