Andrew
The first thing you said was GTR so often the first thought is the best. ("they" say that, but it seems to work well here) If you go the GTR route make sure you get the newer more powerful version!

Tipex
'Based' on the Merc platform means the previous generation platform (or even the one before that), and even then, just bits of it, it won't drive or handle like a merc, it'll be typically wallowy for fat Americans, it absolutely won't be well built, nothing Jeep builds is, and the interior will be made of the cheapest most chemical smelling plastics knowm to man, and those are the plus points! Brabus
Spoke to fast! The buyer has pulled out at the last minute. Finance papers, registration, insurance...everything was signed! When it came to paying the first installment the buyer backed out. I even drove the car 300km (back to where I originally bought it) for the switch. So I now find myself out of pocket (100 gbp or so for travel expenses) and a car which is stuck 300kms away - and I still have to pay for the fecking thing! Have a nice weekend all while I shoot someone.
Ian_C
Oh man!! You not take a deposit? If you'd already filled out the 'new owner' section on your equivalent of the V5 you'll need to order a replacement (£25 over here).

Brabus
Good news finally. After finding out he'd backed out I shot him a stern email saying I had delivered the car in good faith etc. Next day, the garage called me up to say he'd now paid in full and collected the car. Thank goodness! I can now start searching for my Jeep

billy2shots
It's threads like these that make me always try to part ex my cars. Of course you always get the odd person saying you could have git an extra 67p if you sold it privately but it is so much hassle.
NewNiceMrMe
I always PX mine because I can't be doing with any of the numerous examples quoted about time wasters etc. If I was able to get £500 more in a private sale, and I had a certain buyer, then I'd do it. However, I couldn't be arsed going about the advertising/test drives route for the dangers that come with it in 2011.
Brabus
Totally agree with PX'ing and I would have love to have done without the hassle. However, in this case I was being offered 45,000 swiss francs and I sold it privately for 60,000 swiss francs. That's a cool 11K GBP difference which I personally can't throw down the drain. Yep....too much hassel....that said I have had private buyers lined up for my last two cars...The first being a friend...and the second being a friend of a friend. For better or worse time=money....and time wasters=lost income for me.....So if I`v been given the run around by a few punters it costs me money....and any extra profit from selling privately is soon wipped out...So as a rule I p/x

cruiser647
I have a fair old tale to tell about selling a car.......... We have just replaced the Passat V5 with our old A6 Avant. So, put the V5 up on eBay, all went well, sold for a good amount. The winner (as in the LTTRWYU thread) didn't get intouch and still hasn't after 1 month. So, I put it up again. Lo and behold, it sold again. Once again, the winning bidder did not get intouch. We had to chase them. Only for the excuse 'sorry mate, my daughter was playing with the computer.....'. Funny how she was able to get into eBay, password, and then type in a price that was just over the reserve.... hmmmm. So were are hassling him for the auction fees. Put it up for a third time and it sold again. £300 less than the first time! But this geezer appeared when he said he would, gave us cash, looked at it, loaeded it up on his trailer, said good-bye and left. It's not hard is it. The world is full of cnuts! If it was a real auction, ie BCA and you won a car, you'd be expected to pay for it there and then. If not......... well, I'd hate to think! However, I must add, this is the first time I've had grief selling a car on eBay.
