Driver door open/close switch not working - A4 B7 Avant

I noticed a few evenings ago that the interior lights did not illuminate when opening the drivers door. After a little investigation I noted the the lights on buzzer did not sound, and the DIS did not display door open. All other doors activate interior lights, and DIS warning, which leads me to believe it's a problem with drivers door open/close sensing.

I note there is no old fashioned plunger switch for the door to close against so assume it's internal to the locking mechanism.

Has anyone had this problem before, and any idea how to fix? I can't really afford another mortgage to take to dealership so would rather repair myself if possible.

Any replies gratefully received. Thanks

Yesterday I had the bonnet up and wondered the same....and then I saw the wire to the catch so I assume it's there. Maybe the doors work the same.

I guess your alarm won't work on that door either :-/

[edit] Just fired up ETKA and they list "door lock with contact switch".

Well, things have got more complicated. I removed the locking mechanism from door (what a pain), and yes it's a single part unit. However I have tested on bench both mechanically and electrically as per Audi A4 B7 diagrams without fault. Mech is activating the 3 one way micro switches well within tolerance, and the same for the single 2 way barrel switch. Circuits open/closed within Mech all working fine as per diagrams. Checked all pin-outs as per diagram, all good. Plugged everything back together, but same fault.

According to diagram everything from the mech terminates back at the Comfort Control Unit. I think I need VCDS to interrogate system as I don't know what to do next.

Any other ideas appreciated.

Thanks Dave...

Yes indeed it was a corroded wire from loom piece pin 3 lock assembly to Siemens VDO (before CAN bus) unit within door itself. Continuity was in all pins, but pin 3 had high resistance meaning something wasn't right. Made a complete new loom using original colour codes, as other cables within loom piece also looked a bit green externally. Fitted, tested, VCDS all good. Problem solved. Pig of a job, but done nonetheless sorted. Just have to refit door card and bits later.

I don't rate the cabling within door to be so good a design though... Cheers all
