Cuprabob
No they're not. A dealer close to us has just sold a Golf R with less than 6k on the clock, fully loaded, with a special order interior trim - for £25,000. It'd been there a while too. I posted about this on Facebook and we had a discussion about how the original owner must have felt when he was told how much his car was worth. Because it was less than a year old too! That's one car but I take your point.
scillyisles
Hmm a fully loaded 5 Door DSG Golf R is ~£43K new and you cannot order a special order interior trim. The only interior option on the Golf R is Recaro seats which is a £2485 option - if a car less than one year old to this spec went for £25K then I would be extremely surprised. Cars with this spec generally are advertised at VW dealers for around £38- 39K
ashleywater
The only comment I would make where the Golf R is concerned, is they are as rare as a Greek Bank Share Investor at the moment, the fact that they were overpriced to start with has probably the most do with that scenarion, as you can get a fully loaded S3 for less, but try finding a decent 3 door manual for sale, not many about
NewNiceMrMe
I didn't imagine it you know. It may well have been Recaro's, I don't know the Golf range well. Edited May 24, 2012 by MrMe
NewNiceMrMe
The link is now dead. However, text from my Facebook page is still there and it was: 2011, DSG, metallic blue, 6,000 miles, white/grey leather seats by the looks of it(?) and it was £27,490 so I did get the £25k wrong. It was sold by Bentley Newcastle.

It was sold by Bentley Newcastle. That interior is the standard pre facelift interior which was part leather and part alcantara. New spec cars have leather as standard which obviously devalues a car like this. The only extras that car would appear to have from your description are DSG, and metallic so it is hardly fully loaded. Full original list would have been £33K. NewNiceMrMe
No, that's all I can see left from my small lead up to the link. The car was fully loaded. It had a huge spec on the dealer website.
Biscuits
Changing the subject from how much a GolfR can be had for, what can an RS3 be remapped too?
Tipex
Good question, I'd never thought about it before, wonder if Sharky has a map for them, what does the engine map to in other applications?

NewNiceMrMe
Oh okay, cool... about the same as a 135i then I was thinking the same. I'm surprised that they'd not go much further than that. My Z4 has a different air system and a remap - and it puts out 372 bhp. That's without the exhaust being changed which would make more of the remap and take it to around 388bhp. I could then go up a stage - to around 415 bhp. That's if I wanted to keep the pile of shite, which I don't.
ashleywater
There are quite a few TTRS running up to 700BHP, and I have seen an RS3 engined special churning out about 700BHP according to the Dyno, there is avid on youtube somewhere showing a green tuned TTRS monstering a performance beemer, on an airfield, I seeem to recall seeing I have no idea what they are doing soft/hard ware wise to these engines, but apparently they are pretty reliable even with those sort of pretty ludicrous power figures
Biscuits
Yeah, but the 1.8T lump "could" be modified to 500bhp and GTRs "can" get 1000bhp. I was just commenting on a Joe Average tune up. Which remap do you have MrMe?

Thorburn
Had a passenger run out in a TT-RS which had been modified a little, intercooler replaced and remap to take it up to around 420bhp. The figures were impressive - he had acceleration figures from a VMax day and they were FAST, sub 8-seconds to 100mph - but it didn't actually feel particularly quick when you were in it. It's simply too linear in it's delivery and too comfortable and isolated to really feel like you're really travelling quickly. Everything that's wrong with a lot of modern performance cars to me, you can drive around ridiculously quickly with total ease, but the only thing you're challenging is your self restraint and your license. Sounds like you would appreciate my younger bros Hayabusa 65 Cooper then? A car that make you feel, like your doing 160 when the speedo tells a very different tale, like driving a kart, great fun, but everyday transport? I dont think so

Thorburn
Ashley, you're talking to a man who drove an Elise from Swindon to the roof of Scotland and back in a weekend.... To be fair after 2 years of using it as my daily driver I got a bit fed up of racking up joyless mileage on it commuting across town, now I have a 12 year old Subaru Forester for that. Still more fun hustling something at 7/10ths then it is barely scratching the surface of what it can do. The TT-RS was impressive, but unless it was being pushed it could have been any old coupe, and if you were pushing it on the road then you were asking for an accident or driving ban. The only skill in driving one quickly appeared to be in whether you could realise this before either of the above happened. Garcon, your a hero mate, I would have been p1ssing blood for a week after that journey, in that motor, but there again, I probably wouldnt have even able to "shoehorn" meself in one of those, these days. I get those cars I really do, just think they are something you have in your garage (If your fortunate enough to have a garage that a car will actually fit into) but I dont really see the relevance of comparing them to something like a TTRS, basically ,Charlie Biffer Cole & Beyonce, Drugs & Alcohol, they all basically do the same thing, but in slightly different ways, and each to their own poison IMHO, well unless its listening to that...........&8"!!..:@ Beemer driving.....talentless..*'_--[[ bint Just starting doing a bit of hill climbing, and absolutely loving it, getting quite hooked, epic shunt at the last event, Tuscan doing what TVR'ss do best, ouch!!
