quattroman
Is there a way to change the 12v cigarette lighter in centre console to be switched on and off with the ignition? I like to keep the TomTom plugged in as it always displays the current speed limit (I know, there can be mapping errors but it's more often right than wrong!). At the moment it seems to be permanently live, even when the car's locked up. Pete
Sarge786
My A4 DTM has a permanent live to the lighter socket by default, so shouldn't yours be the same? Edit: Sorry misread the question.... I think Edited May 11, 2011 by Sarge786
Cockney Boy
Nope there is no way to have on when the ignition is turned on Is there a way to change the 12v cigarette lighter in centre console to be switched on and off with the ignition? Sarge786
Sorry misread the question and it won't allow me to edit Anyway to do this will involve a re-wire to a suitably rated 12v ignition switched circuit, not a totally impossible task though. PetrolDave
Unplug the TomTom - it will be easier.
Scotty
Get a B8 A4 and they're all ignition switched .... which is a pain in the 'arris !
Markpaq
Don't use the cigarette lighter socket. I used to have a road angel type of thingy in my B7 but I bought a cigarette lighter socket from the high street and wired it in to the Drivers side fuse panel then tapped off one of the switched supplies. Sorry I can't remember which fuse but using a DVM you should be able to find it easily enough. As long as you don't mind having the TomTom next to the offside "A" pillar it looks nice and neat with no trailing cables anywhere.
craigyb
Use a 12V 40Amp relay, £2.99 from Maplin. Use a low current switched live to activate the relay from the fuse box. Switch the cigarette lighter socket through the relays NO (normally open) contacts. http://www.maplin.co.uk/40a-spno-and-30a-spdt-automotive-relay-37526?ordercode=N02AW Simples.... PetrolDave
Get a B8 A4 and they're all ignition switched .... which is a pain in the 'arris ! +1 I plug a coolbox into the power socket in the boot of my RS4 and as it's permanently live that's great. I'd like to do the same in my C1, but that has an ignition switched cigarette lighter so I can't without running a new power feed. Unswitched is better - as craigyb suggests it's easier to make an unswitched one switched (if that's what you really want).
