Hi - I am buying an A4 Cab (June 2009 2.0 TDI Final Edition) and will pick it up later this week. I was wondering whether anyone can help me with the following:

1. Is there a defined set of standards for the 'Approved Used' Audi. It would be good to have a look and see what the dealership should have complied with, so we know all is well.

2. It is fitted with a GSM phone prep (in the centre armrest). Is this bluetooth? or do I need to either find the right cradle for the phone or have a bluetooth unit fitted? There is no cradle installed at present.

3. It has the RNS-E Satelite Navigation plus. The software is 2009. Am I correct in thinking the 2010 software should have been out then? or will I need to buy new discs. Is there much a different between 09 and current versions?

4. For the RNS-E above I was thinking about having a reverse camera fitted. My wife is not confident with a larger car and this would improve her enjoyment of it. Is this relatively straightforward and does anyone know of an ICE Technican who could do this in or close to Birmingham?

5. and you all say finally  I have got a set of Audi S5 chrome/aluminium mirrors. These are the ones with the clear LED indicators. Can these be fitted and made to fold electrically, or just too much hassle?

Apologies for all the questions on my first posting. Just very excited to be getting the car and already thinking about how to improve and get the most out of it. All help and advice gratefully received. +++

Hello and welcome! +++

1. Definately a set of standards for Audi Approved - I would check out their website first.

2. If its a 2009 with phone prep, it'll be bluetooth. The cradle will charge so you will have to get the right cradle for your phone, usually about £100 from the dealer.

3. Not sure about the Nav disk year question, but I would have thought changes year on year would be small for RNS-E, althouch there is a guy on here who is an expert.

4. Again, I am sure someone will be along in a mo for this one.

5. S5 mirrors wont fit an A4 easily.... let alone get the electrics plumbed in. If you want to, get some S4 chrome mirror caps instead.

Enjoy! the weather is moving int he right direction!

Dan - thanks for the reply.

I checked the Audi website and unfortunately whilst they talk generally they do not decalre their 'standards' e.g. what do they do with stone chips, what tread do they accept as minimum (other than legal 1.6mm) on the tyres, etc. Are there any Audi dealer / mechanics on the forum?

Thanks for the advice on the telephone, mirrors and the satnav.

Just need to find a local technician - any ideas or other forums where recommendations for the midlands are made?

Fingers crossed on the weather!

I thought tread had to be a minimum of 4mm for dealers? As for stone chips etc, I'd have a good walk round the car and point out anything you arent happy to accept, they can get it done (think they still use chips away) before you collect +++

Should have taken it out on an unaccompanied test drive, I'm sure it could have come back with tyres under 3mm! :secret:

I did - and I tried hard enough to reduce the tread depth that it scared my wife (and she's used to being with me in the RS4!) - I think it was the insane amount of body roll that scared her most

Thanks to everyone who has offered advice. I am going to pick up the car tomorrow, so all being well will have a new toy to play with.

I enquired at Audi and they said that their minimum acceptable under Audi Approved used was 3mm so they have changed all the 18'' tyres on the cars, but the spare is above 3mm so left.... shame.

I have looked all over the web but been unable to find the approved used standards defined anywhere and also contacted customer support, who simly said 'ask the garage'... never mind.

Thanks to everyone and at some point I might be selling some chrome S5 mirrors if they are not easy to fit on an A4. Any takers?
