paulrich
My wife crashed her mk5 gti dsg in supermarket while parking. as she entered the parking space The car took off while breaking.Lots of damage to near side wing etc. Has any one experienced problems with throttle sticking etc. The car has just been serviced at vw dealer. The coils were replaced as part of a call back. could something have been disturbed?
shark_90
That sounds very odd. The coil pack change could not have had a bearing on it. The only thing that could have caused this issue is the throttle pedal physically sticking or electronically malfunctioning but there are failsafes in the ECU for electronic failures or abnormalities. Cuprabob
Sorry to hear this, and have not heard of any instances of throttle sticking. In fact power is automatically cut when you apply the brake.
eldavo69
(flame suit on) Does your wife drive a manual car as well as the DSG Golf? Reason I ask is that it's pretty common for people to swap between the 2 and press what they believe to be the brake (second pedal in) and it's actually the accelerator on an auto. Simplest explanation is usually the right one and your wife will probably genuinely believe she pressed the brake even if she didn't. That's a conversation I don't envy you having though! Booster
Sorry to say this but could it be driver error and not wanting to tell her husband what actually happened.....

stooH
I thought the same thing. My wife has driven the GTI twice in the 4 1/2 years I've had it. She openly admits she doesn't like driving the DSG as it's not what she's used to and I massively respect her for that. Plus it means my car doesn't look like tha **** heap that hers does
paulrich
Wife has never had a crash in 15 years, had the dsg gti for 3 years. Over to the garage, another Toyota in the making? Will speak to garage tomorrow, probably going to need a new potentiometer? strange how the car revs went trough the roof and then into nuetral after hitting bollard. shark_90
If that happened then there should be an overspeed error logged in the ECU and it will tell you the measured throttle position amongst other things in the freeze frame data.
