Wiganer
Back owning an Audi after a few years away, I have an A3 3.2 quattro DSG. However it is now being naughty so I've dusted my old tyresmoke account off and decided to post to see if anyone can shed any light. The end result of the following sequence of events is the gearbox selects neutral/loses drive. Don't know which, and the PRND legend on the dash starts flashing. Key off and restart makes it function normally again for a bit. The sequence of events is as follows. First off the ESP light comes on. (The yellow triangle with a curly arrow round it.) I thought at first I had this nailed to only when coming to a stop or pulling away, but it isn't. It came on tonight down the m45.) Once the esp light is on, if you then slow down to a point where the box would normally select first, the check engine light comes on. Then once at a standstill or if you slow right down and accelerate away it loses drive and flashes the prnd at you. Upon restarting the car, everything is normal except the check engine light remains on. It doesn't seem to be temerature related, it's done it from stone cold to red hot after a 200 mile journey. Apart from when it does this, the gearbox works perfectly, no judders, delays, jerkiness or anything else. I'm in the proccess of moving back up North, my toolboxes went last week so I currently have no access to diagnostic equipment, or at least not till next week. Anybody had this before? Anyody any ideas to stop me worrying about having to remove the mechatronic and sens it off?
cruiser647
Has your gearbox ever been serviced? (had the fluid changed?) Has the MAF ever been changed?
Wiganer
Last service it had was a major with all fluids including DSG and Haldex. Maf has never been changed. However i've just got back having had to be recovered home. Did it's little trick again, except this time wouldn't reset, wouldn't come out of park, engine wouldn't start then wouldn't give me the key back. Had battery off for an hour and back on again, still no joy. The recovery guy thinks it may well be the shifter mech rather than the gearbox itself. Having popped the top off to release the park solenoid, it looks like something may have been spilled in there.
cruiser647
Good and bad news then. I suppose you need to try to clean and dry up the spill damage.
Wiganer
Right, the cause of the problem is a lack of power to fuse 18 on the drivers side fuseboard, hence no +30 power to the range selector. No codes in the mechatronic apart from communication with gear selector ones. Just waiting on a copy of elsawin arriving so I can see where this is derived from and fix the problem. Temporary supplying the fuse from elsewhere and everything is hunky dory again. Presumably it is fed from the under bonnet fuseboard, though the internet is not coming up with answers in terms of wiring diagrams. Frustrating as it means waiting again and cruising around in the old faithfull passat syncro. In the meantime, if anyone has a wiring diagram..........
