Scotty
My father's been told it's a bumper off job to replace the headlight bulbs. Surely not! Can someone tell me if that's the case and if not what's involved?
Biscuits
IIRC it's not, pretty sure I replaced the headlight bulbs on my old GTI with Osram high output ones... wouldn't have done it if I'd have needed to use anything more than a screwdriver
Mook
If you ask a main dealer it is. It's a sodding tricky job, but you can do it without removing the bumper. Nearside is a PITA, because of the battery, but you can just loosen it, move it back and across and you can get to the bulb. Offisde is easier, but not a simple task. Tipex
Open the bonnet and have a look, you might need to remove a couple of bits of plastic or whatever, and slim hands help, but it's not difficult.
pingpongpo
No it's not a bumper off job. I've done both sides on mine and yes the battery side is a bit more a squeeze but once you get the hang of the little spring clip holding the lamp in it's easy peasey
Scotty
Thank you chaps. I'm sure I'll be the one with skinned knuckles!
Tipex
Thank you chaps.I'm sure I'll be the one with skinned knuckles! If you've got hands like dinner plates, like me, then yes, you will feel the searing kiss of skin being scraped of your hands, find someone with tiny hands to do it, my Mrs is very petite so I get her to do jobs like that. Her having small hands also has another benefit, it makes my c**k look huge when she's holding it!

Scotty
My father just called. Job's done in less than 30 mins and no scraped knuckles! He's very happy he didn't get the dealer to do them. Fair play to the OEM bulbs - 10 years and they were still the originals! He's now fitted brighter whiter ones.
