billy2shots
The whole of Europe are laughing at AC Milan this morning. Out of the Champions League to Barcelona, how embarrassing. Barcelona only spent money buying just 4 of their starting 11 where as Milan have a team full of expensive signings which automatically makes them huge favourites, apparently. Milan will return to Italy with their heads lowered in shame having lost to this inexpensive team. Barcelona continue to over perform given the money spent on acquiring talent and pundits are starting to believe a miracle might happen and this low cost team might actually go all the way. garcon magnifique
Billy, pipe down la', as our scouse friends might say. You've taken MrMe's bait hook, line and sinker... and he's not even a very good angler. You can't have a logical argument with a wind up merchant, and continuing to try just makes you look silly. Call him something rude, laugh it off and just look forward to being able to give it back sometime. (Although that won't be this season, obviously... )
billy2shots
And that's why we call you bitter Berties...Seems you also don't appreciate how Spanish football works, too. That adds precisely nothing in proving the point that many utd fans continue to make regarding how outlay must guarantee success. As you still seem to be struggling to grasp the relative simple point (my examples haven't been the best) let's use a car as an example as this is a car forum. You have 20k to spend on a car, I have 10k. Can you guarantee the car you buy will be better than mine, will it be faster, more luxurious, have better economy. Money does not guarantee anything in life, what it can do is make things easier. In our case turn a club that is up and down the leagues into a serious title challenge. Who has the biggest budget in formula 1, which rugby and cricket teams spend the most etc etc. Unfortunately the majority of football fans turn into idiots when it comes to trash talking a rival team and will cling on to headline figures as the be all and end all of an argument. Also begs the age old question, if a super wealthy buyer came in for utd to clear all the debts and make vast sums available for transfers, you would be utterly against that and want the Glaziers to stay? Twinspark
That doesn't work, either. With Barcelona and Madrid its like being shown prototype cars, then if you like them, being able to have them for free before anyone else gets to see them... As for the United situation... I want neither the Glazers or a rich sheik. I want flotation and partial fan ownership.

So what your saying then is there are other factors involved to become successful and winning things isn't solely linked to how much you spend on buying players. Twinspark
What Barca do is essentially the same as buying in talent, it's just that Spanish football is set up to gift the big new talent to a couple of clubs at the expense of all others. Just as it is in Italy, the success of the big clubs is a matter of national pride and intertwined with the governments.
m4ttm4son
Yeah, Barca haven't spent any money bringing in players. Everyone has come through their youth system Ibrahimovic - £60 million plus Eto'o :smashfreak: Villa -£35m Mashcerano - £18m Fabregas - £35m (which was a crazy bargain) Alexis Sanchez - £23m Chygrynskiy - £22m who they then sold back to the club for £12m the following season. In the year when they won everything they made a loss of £150m. Money can buy you success, but not overnight. Man City will be the best club in Europe if they continue the way they have been and develop the management of it. They haven't done a Chelsea and bought 30 year olds, at least! Twinspark
It's a funny world, Spanish football. The big teams get to rape all the others of any young talent in the game, but also get to spend what they don't have, knowing the government will bail them out when they run out of cash. NewNiceMrMe
p.s whilst the initial fee for Sanchez was £23m, the truth is he'll cost them £31m. The add-ons are almost all guaranteed because of his appearances to date, just spread out over time.

An interesting sub-note to that is that Barca may well have to get used to the fact that won't be happening. Numerous reports of Gareth Bale being their primary summer target all suggest the £40m asking price has been put to Rossell (their President) and he's said they want him - but that they simply cannot afford him and need to get their ship in order so they'll not be buying him. That leaves the way open for Real Madrid who are said to be ready to pay the price. Or City who are ready to pay three times the amount (okay, sorry, just couldn't resist that one). Well after doing such a great job ( against a team I have supported since 1978, with one of the best defensive records in the championship,in there first ever season there) I reckon 40 Million is an absolute snip, that kid is awesome IMHO,and if Arry gets the Ingerland job, which seems pretty well a shoe in now, he will be off somewhere, and I have to say Man City, would be my idea of the first in line, with the neccessary readies

This is exactly the web they spun to get a wonder-deal for Fabregas. If they pay £40m for Bale the world's greatest footballer in the world, I'll be even more upset. Soulboy
It looks like Sergio Aguero is being urged to leave City by his father-in-law. Who just happens to be Maradona Diego Maradona urges Sergio Aguero to quit Manchester City for Real Madrid | Give Me Football
NewNiceMrMe
Aguero is a superb player - but if the money was right I'd happily take a swap deal with Higuain. He's an excellent player. Maradona has always been a tit when it comes to comments like this. I don't think Aguero would be a huge loss to them when you consider their buying power - especially if he doesn't want to be there. If I was them I'd say they could have him for £20m plus Higuain...and Benzema. Now he's a world class player.

NewNiceMrMe
Balotelli = as I said, total and utter fruitcake. Should have been off in the first half anyway. Mancini = totally flawed in showing faith in those who don't show it back City = Game Over. Title no. 20 in the bag.
Twinspark
We now need 10 points to clinch the title, assuming City don't drop any more points. So, if both us and City win the next 3.... a draw at the Council House would be the title clincher. Would be nice to do it there - but I think I'd be happier if we had it wrapped up before that. NewNiceMrMe
Mathetically, true. But it's over. City look broken, completely and utterly disinterested team of mercenaries. Balotelli thinks of one thing. Balotelli. Aguero looked like he cares as much about City as I do. Hopefully they'll keep doing that for many a year to come. Soulboy
Talk of king Kenny being under pressure too........shame. Wheres the OP gone? Worst run in 59 years (or something) it said in the Sunday papers. I would also like to make a u-turn about my views on balotelli. He is just a liability......he could have ended players careers with some of those tackles today.
m4ttm4son
Balotelli should have had about 4 yellows and two straight reds today. Disgusting. I've been a fan of his up until now. Wonder where he'll be on loan next season. Tott? Get rid of him and tevez, and this "team" could still come together next season, but I don't think Mancini will be around to do it. Not sure he deserves the sacking, who could get this group of vigilantes playing together? He was doing well for a while. Very much enjoyed the game today. Completely dominated and just a shame there was only one goal to decide it.
