GrahamF
First off, sorry about all these questions but this time it's about getting my iPod recognised by the AMI. The car is fitted with this and the dealer very kindly supplied me with a new iPod and flash drive cable set - part number 4F0 051 510 P. Yesterday I bought a new Ipod Classic (160Gb), I connected the cable into the AMI slot next to the CD drive and then connected the iPod, I then went to the Media section but it came up with "No media connected" or words to that effect. I then tried my iPhone with the same results. The CD loads CD's and MP3's and plays those fine so have I got to go into the MMI and tell it to recognise the iPhone or iPod or should it automatically do that? The other thing that had crossed my mind is that the software for the MMI is not the latest version and therefore will not recognise both the Apple products. I have installed the latest 2012 SAT NAV disc which I thought automatically updated the software to the latest version as part of the process but I'm probably totally wrong about that. I shall be calling in at the dealers tomorrow lunchtime and would like to go there fully armed with the information for what they need to do to sort this problem out rather than being fobbed off. I am now starting to get a horrible feeling that the software I'm running on my iThings are too new for the Audi AMI and whatever I do (or the dealer) won't solve the problem, if that is the case then the dealer will get a mouthful from me for giving me false or wrong information. Once again chaps, any help and advice will be much appreciated. Graham
craigyb
Depends on the age of the Ipod interface and the lead supplied. The blue ringed lead is for the AMI between 2009-to date The black lead is for the AMI from 2007-2009. So sounds like they have provided the newer cable set and your AMI has older software, maybe an MMI update will update the AMI and fix the issue. GrahamF
Thanks for that Craig - that makes perfect sense. The cables are blue ringed so maybe all they need to do is an MMI update, I would prefer them to do an update rather than exchange the cables for the older style to be honest - assuming that is the route to go. GrahamF
Problem solved. The dealer ordered an older style cable (just black with no blue ring) and it worked straight away, it's just a shame they couldn't have sorted these silly little things out before the car as delivered to me. Anyway, I'm very happy with the sound quality from it even though they are only MP3's so the jobs a good'en. Thanks again for your help Craig.
