Montmelo, May 13th - The FIA can confirm that a fire broke out in the Williams garage after the conclusion of the Spanish Grand Prix. The flames were quickly brought under control through the combined intervention of staff from Williams, Caterham and Force India, supported by the circuit fire services.

Thirty-one team members were seen by Circuit Medical Centre staff and all have been released, with the exception of seven who were transferred to a variety of local hospitals where they are receiving treatment.

The FIA is collaborating closely with the Spanish authorities investigating this incident and will be providing a further update as soon as more information becomes available.

Tiz true!

My perception of the pictures was that people were putting themselves at risk trying to save things. I hope I'm wrong.

The sky camera man was dragging a Williams team member from the garage...I seem to recall Ted saying he thought the guy being dragged from the garage had suffered minor burns to his legs.

At one point there was a very real risk the fire would take and jump to another garage, which is why all the other teams helped to put the flames out. Apparently the person still in hospital has approx 40% burns so not in a great condition to say the least he was close to the initial explosion.

The FIA could end up reviewing who is allowed into the pit lane and behind the garages in future post race. Because when they are loading the trucks up they are in a vulnerable position from a safety prospective, hopefully everyone will learn form the incident.
