VWGeek
I have a 2002 VW Polo, 1.4 with a gearbox problem. It is fine going up the gears but coming back down it will not go into third. If I double declutch and rev the engine I can get it to go into third. A friend said something about the syncromesh gear. Could it be htat and what would be involved in putting it right? Is it OK to drive?
Mook
Welcome to Tyresmoke Polo gearboxes aren't the strongest of things and they don't last too well over 80k miles (there are exceptions!). Yes, it'll still be fine to drive, but the cheapest long-term fix will be to replace the gearbox. Google reconditioned gearboxes - there's a load of specialists around the UK.
