Another car being towed from the drive!

yru6a5yn.jpg

When I last got it out and triggered the alarm it tripped the immobiliser and it won't start. Anyway, not my problem at the moment as the car is now at the bodyshop. He'll start work on it in January and hopefully it'll be done by the end of the month.

Gives me time to tidy up the garage and paint the floor again. Got a long list of things to sort out when she comes back too, starting with the immobiliser and then moving onto the interior and under the bonnet.

Hopefully!

I'm replacing the big twin-pump washer tank with a 1.5L 964RS one and a 996 pump. I never use the headlight washers so have removed all the hoses and valves as well as the spray nozzles too.

Rather than replace the nozzles afterwards I'm getting the bodyshop to fill and skim the holes before paint. Tempted to get the black rubbing strip removed from the rear bumper too.

Well, it was looking good and hopefully it will do so again in a months time.

After seeing the total bodge job of an alarm and immobiliser installation when I removed the dashboard I may try and remove it completely and fit a new one in its place. Will see how easily I mange to get it started when it comes back first!

Finally an update!

I popped into the bodyshop last Thursday to see what the work schedule for the car was going to look like but Gordon had left for the day so I thought I'd call by today.

As it happened I got a call at 9.30 this morning to ask I if I could drop the windscreen off and the bolts for the wing as they were ready for fitting - and there I was thinking he wouldn't have started yet!

He took the bottom corner return piece from my old wing that had been previously repaired and added some new metal to it and then cut the rusty bottom off the replacement wing and welded the other part on. He then cut another rusty section out of the front of the wing and fabricated some new metal before welding it in and rubbing it all down.

So here's my now-perfect cut and shut wing waiting for paint and ready to fit:

Gordon had also sorted the dent in the roof, the dent in the door and pulled the a-pillar back to shape. So we laid the windscreen in to check the fit, it needs a bit more work to bring it in line with the centre but it's bloody close, very happy so far. Looks spot on from this angle though :)

Decided to have the plastic rubbing strip removed from the rear bumper, the mounting holes filled and skimmed too. I've seen it on a few other cars and it's a nice clean look.

I'll check back in a few days and see what progress has been made then; exciting times!

Been on the phone to the bodyshop this morning already!

Having had a chat with a friend last night and looking at pictures online I've decided to leave the bumper rubbing strip "as-is." It looks like something is missing when it's removed, plus the black against the silver is matches the contrast and colour scheme of the rest of the car too.

The guy at the bodyshop was going to take the bumper off this morning so just in the nick of time!

Current look (I've got to put the "Porsche" script sticker back on below the number plate yet):

What it looks like without the rubbing strip:

Drilling holes in the door handles, huh? A Magnus Walker signature touch ;)

Decided the rubbing strip stays for now - I like the way it mirrors the spoiler. But I will be changing the hatch for a bridge spoiler one I've got so I'll see how it looks then and change it of necessary.

I admire your ethic with this project, and given the set back its great to hear the progress is so positive.

When I look back at cars of the 80's and then progressively further back 70's, 60's, 50's etc I think the stand out classics have had improvements, but the overall model theme (or cars original identity) is in keeping with the way it came out the factory doors.

In short, don't feck with it so much it isn't what it is. Each change from factory exit doors chips away at that.

Well that's what I think :)

The bridge spoiler hatch I've got is a genuine Porsche item from a run-out model car.

I don't mind changing the spec of the cars with other parts from the model range but no aftermarket body kits allowed. (Well, apart from a subtle front splitter that helps with steering weight at speed that I've got my eye on)

Well I know it looks the same but it's not; took this picture on Weds:

Pillar alignment is now perfect and the pillar/roof trim fits back on too. This is very flimsy thin aluminium trim and the alignment needs to be spot on otherwise it'll have noticeable bends in it.

It should also be ready a week early and in line with my quoted price - even though I've asked for a couple of extra bits doing. Bonus!

Dropped some more bits off this morning. The 964 RS washer tank fits perfectly where the old washer tank fitted but mounts differently. I dropped off some nuts and bolts so that a rod fastener could be welded to the inner wing to enable me to bolt the tank straight into it.

A little more progress had been made, the front corner had all been pulled back into shape so that the wing could be fitted and aligned properly:

(I definitely need to measure up for some spacers)
