I realised that I never actually posted the videos from Croft so will do.

First of all, Fizzbitt holding it together wonderfully (even if I wasn't):

Chasing a 911 who didn't seem to have working mirrors otherwise he'd have shifted out of the way sooner. To be fair he moved over sharpish in every subsequent session:

Apologies for the metallic rattling, it was the dodgy aftermarket gearknob that came on the car and has now been replaced with an original part.

I've got a good video of my session under instruction that's currently uploading and I'll post up when it's finished. The Audi S5 that started in front of me didn't stay there for long. (Not bad for a car "that should nearly be as quick" as TDK's 968 :) )

  • 4 weeks later...

Well, after the 18-30s ring trip I had a couple of issues to attend to. Namely; change the fuel rail, fix the power steering and get a new exhaust tip welded on!

There was a slight weep from one of the support welds on the fuel rail, not good news but relatively common (I had it happen on my old car too). 4 bolts, 4 clips and the fuel rail is off with a good used part to replace it with.

I thought about getting the old one repaired but the fuel dampener was on so tight that when I tried to unfasten it the weld cracked.

Replacement part and old one:

But . . . It can't go on like that so out with the masking tape, hi temp paint and petrol resistant lacquer:

The power steering was as simple as replacing the tensioner that had snapped and a couple of nuts.

Tightened up, refilled the reservoir and bled the system, easy peasy.

The exhaust was beyond my capabilities though!

There had been a repair on it by the previous owner and I'd never investigated. I'd hoped that it'd be ok until next year until I got a new exhaust built but the M62 conspired against me:

Packed up the car for a Porsche Club trackday tomorrow. I was determined to get all 4 wheels in the back after only managing 3 last time.

Something was hampering my efforts though:

With that removed I'd almost got all 4 in the back but the spare wheel hump was in the way. Figuring I had 4 wheels in the back already I removed the spare from under the hump and success!!!

Fancy a laugh?

Here's my very gentle inaugural lap of the Nürburgring. The power steering tensioner snapped and the nut fell off the end which meant the belt came off into the undertray. Was a bit weird starting with PS and then realising I didn't have it when barreling into the next tight corner!!! There was lot of gauge-checking to make sure everything was ok and then we got back to it. BTG 10:51

I also did a PCGB trackday at Croft and will post the video when I've uploaded it. Although it's on a pretty quiet circuit late in the day. The car performed really well and took a few 911, 968, Cayman and Boxster scalps :)

I test-fitted my Cup1 wheels to check clearance and stance. I'm not 100% convinced yet but once they're refurbed in black I might be more sure. Still leaning towards gloss black spokes and a silver lip but we'll see.

Finally; here's a picture I bought from one of the ring photographers; one for the study:
