AZURES3 Posted January 5, 2013 Report Share Posted January 5, 2013 After 15 months of getting a lift to work after selling the S3 we moved to a lovely new house in rural Hamphsire and I needed a car to commute the 32 mile round trip to work. I test drove some awful 2-4 year old VW Golfs and then decided after having 3 as renatl cars to buya Seat Leon. OK so its not going to set the world on fire and most people have probably moved to another page by now but blimey talk about high MPG cant get below 50 however I drive it, low Co2 £20 tax disc and so much VAG standard kit that I paid for on the Tiguan. So it has Sat/Nav, Cruise, Interior light pack, bluetooth, auto wipers, auto lights, tyre pressure monitor, ipod/USB connector and metalic paint. I managed to squeeze a dealer to take one of their hands in November for £11,900 it was up for £12,900 and they didnt buckle easy until I offer a debit card that day for collection 2 days later. I also got 12 months roadside and the next service free lol. The only issue was the rubbish tyres they fitted to it on the front but trip to Costco got me 4 * Michelin energy saver + tyres for £230 ! Tipex Posted January 5, 2013 Report Share Posted January 5, 2013 I've no experience of the Ford 1.6Tdi, but the Skoda Octavia (in non VRs guise) is only available with the 1.6 TDi, and a lot of our drivers are experiencing reliability problems with it. Most seem to involve turbo failure and leaking turbo's, as in leaking exhaust gas into the car among other things, they also aren't getting anything like 50mpg. Twinspark Posted January 5, 2013 Report Share Posted January 5, 2013 To be fair, I don't think any engine likes the way taxi drivers drive them... 1st gear to 5mph then straight into top. Puts one hell of a strain on the drivetrain. In terms of efficiency, I used to get high 30s mpg from the 1.6TDCI, mostly because you had to thrash it to make any progress - and this was the higher power 110PS, rather than the 90PS, which must be absolutely dreadful. All a bit bizzarre, as the old VAG 1.9TDI-90 and 110s seemed to have an abundance of power and would easily top 50mpg. All this CO2 bollocks has completely screwed real world usability and economy. Tipex Posted January 5, 2013 Report Share Posted January 5, 2013 The old Vag 1.9 PD TDI (particularly in 130bhp guise) was a cracking engine, the 2.0 that replaced it was awful by comparison, and so is pretty much every other diesel Vag have produced since, the 1.9 PD also suited taxi driving very well, as it had bags of torque from 500rpm upwards, so crawling in high gears was easy, and as you say, it really did do 50+ MPG, unlike it's replacements that claim to, but can't deliver. Twinspark Posted January 5, 2013 Report Share Posted January 5, 2013 I really liked the 2.0TDI-PD-140, to be honest. The 170 was a bit peaky, but the 140 was an excellent engine - I took mine from 8k through to 118k miles without too many issues in a B6 Passat. The problematic cars for us were the 1.9TDI-PDs in the B6 - they had all kinds of issues with blown turbos, etc. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I get 50-55mpg all day long with a fully loaded boot, and its surprisingly quiet on the motorway.
