cruiser647
Oh another weird thing I saw this morning :A SAAB convertible with the number plate KM08 OPS made to look like Knob Ops. WTF ?!?!?! Rent boy? Or Vasectomy specialist with humour?
Scotty
My immediate thought was a Jewish surgeon due to the area I was in at the time but unlikely I guess.

Twinspark
Ah now I like the new one better than the old one. I'm with you on this. Saw one for the first time in Berlin last summer - thought it looked really nice. Would definitely have considered one if I was allowed a 2 door co. car. Paul
I hate the way dealerships do that. Number plates only thanks!Seriously stonking motor the S6. I normally strip out all the dealer tat like the huge tax disc holder and window stickers. I dont mind dealer branded plates, with xxx group etc, but peel off those under plate stick on trims that only fade with xxx audi on.
bazza_g
What astonished me was when Saab decided to do that on their cars themselves That was because GM had got involved. 'Mericans love chrome.... specifically the plastic, stick on variety. Is that when Saab took their design hints from the Cylons in Battlestar Galactica?! First thing I did on the GTR was replace the plates - mainly because my dealer branded plates said "Dick Lovett"
Scotty
Lack of planning I told my dealer I didn't want any stickers and I didn't want advertising on the plates
patently
I think the plates have to carry the name of whoever made them up? My 911 used to have Dick Lovett plates, but they started to peel so I replaced them with Porsche Centre Swindon plates instead. Not sure which is better
stooH
I think i must just have been lucky but i've never had any stickers in my windows of any of the cars i've bought and nothing stuck on the back. The only thing i've ever had is a small name on the number plate and they're so small normally that you don't ever notice them.

Not sure which is better  I think it's just advertising. When I was at Renault in 1990's, on eof the marketing admin girls had an idea to put the Renault UK name and direct telephone number on all the company cars. She got some cash for the idea and a few weeks later all future cars supplied by Renault UK got the plates with the phone number.
patently
I think it's just advertising. No, I've checked, it's mandatory. The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001, Schedule 2 requires that the plates conform to British Standard BS AU 145d(1) or an EU equivalent. The BS is only available to purchase, not view, which seems naughty as it forms part of our law, but Wikipedia confirms that "The material of UK number plates must either comply with British Standard BS AU 145d,[2] which states BSI number plates must be marked on the plate with the BSI logo and the name and postcode of the manufacturer and the supplier of the plates" My guess is that the Renault girl is a possible explanation as to how it got started, but that it is now enshrined in law. Mook
Putting all your pages of regs to one side - all plates have to have as a minimum the post code of who made them, as well as the BS stamp

Tipex
Mine don't have any of that crap on. Nor do mine, technically it should fail the MOT (not an issue on yours as it wont be old enough), but it passes every time. A police officer could issue a ticket for it, but they'd have to be really bored or you'd have to have properly wound them up!
Mook
Nor do mine. But then I don't use number plates - they're for Macs. Or something
cruiser647
Another thing - why when you overtake someone, you look over at them and they look back! How do they know you are looking?

You are starting to move over towards them because you aren't looking where you are going and they are thinking which tw4t is overtaking me and looking across... Probably. Tipex
I don't get the current Mercedes A class ad, the 'getaway' style one, where they still aren't allowed to show any speed or spirited driving. They've made an attempt at adding some racier engine noises, but it just looks stupid!
Mook
Talking of stupid car ads - what about the Ford one with the bloke diving through the sliding doors. When do you ever park your car on its side at the swimming pool?

AudiPartner
Ok gleaming black Overfinch Range, private plate, BUT... the plate (rear) was standard size and it was stuck to the proper sized RR rear plate that was behind it. It's the finishing touches isn't it?? Oh, and then, a brand new black pimped out RR with Arabic plates on stormed past us all. Bet Mr Overfinch was a bit gutted.
