cruiser647
D'oh! I need a new battery for the 8. The display bleeps everytime I start it and the display only reports 10% left! It's been fine, but wary that it will give up soon. And that other cars might struggle to give it the juice to start if I try to jump it!!!! I also know that I will need to 'code' it for the car. I have the software and cable. What do I need to do? Edited April 30, 2013 by cruiser647
snapdragon
Don't get anything too fancy just some standard-spec replacement of the original. Same capacity (Ah) is important, not CCA. Charge the new battery to 100% before fitting. Audi A8 (4E) Battery Replacement - Ross-Tech Wiki To recode, if you don't get a VAG battery, just change a digit in the serial number to reset all the accrued parameters. Clear all trouble codes from all control modules at the end.

cruiser647
I changed a number in the serial number and it said it took it in and recoded OK, but when I went back, the same codes were showing. Any ideas? Or does it need a real serial number? If so, does anyone have a serial number for a Varta 920 I can try?
snapdragon
That's what I fitted. What codes are still showing? Error codes or old serial number?
cruiser647
Old serial number is still showing, even though it says new codes taken and saved.
snapdragon
When you look in the various measuring blocks have they been reset, e.g. ageing and Ah throughput back to 0? I have recoded mine a few times and it didn't require anything special. Do you have geuine VCDS?
cruiser647
I think so! It allowed me to clear other codes. I'll look at the measuring blocks and stuff....
