varcolac1987
Hello i have a audi a8 3.0 tdi quattro 2005 i just had the battery and the alternator changed on it and the throttle body.when i put the ignition on is comes up with the error "battery manegement level" and when it starts on the first spin the engine choke's then it starts or it just spins for 6-8 times before it starts. Another thing is that sometimes when it starts for about 1 minute it takes out a white-blue smoke the car drives verry good. Please is there anyone that can help me...i already spent £1000 to change what ever this mechanics have thought is wrong now i just need to be sure...thank you
cruiser647
Hi, Welcome to TSN! I thinik the car needs to be 'told' it has a new battery. Once done, the car should act accordingly. At the mo, it still thinks the old one is in.
varcolac1987
where or how can i do that? the guy that changed all he did was to take the old one out and put the new one in....and any idea what's with the smoke(someone say'd is the injectors but the car is well strong)?thank you
cruiser647
You need the VAGCom diagnostics tool. It's software that runs on a laptop that you can connect to your car. Best to get someone who knows what they are doing to do it. The sfotware can be dangerous in beginners hands!!!
drpellypo
The battery does indeed need to be coded. It's the same on the Touareg. Your local dealer can do this for you.
drpellypo
Oh, and you might find that the battery your mechanic has put in is no good. You can only register the battery to the car if it follows a specific serial number configuration (I think it's 10 digits.) No issues with genuine Audi battery, but it's likely it's a varta or similar which you may run into issues with. Your car will very likely be in 'power save' mode, which will cause driving issues. I'm not sure of the smoke though. I really can't imagine it being related, but it's certainly worth getting the battery issue sorted and seeing how it runs. drpellypo
Actually, now i remember, I think Audi might use Varta so you could be OK! Bosch was the one put in my Audi from the dealers.
