billy2shots
Ozil, just what Arsenal need. Another attacking midfielder who likes to create rather than score. He is however exactly what Utd need. They are going for Ander from Bilbao for £30m when they should be gunning for Ozil. Maybe the fact he turned them down for Real a few years back has something to do with it.
NewNiceMrMe
Why spend £42m on an aging midfielder who is off form when you can buy a young midfielder for £30m who is generally higher rated in Spain?
billy2shots
Ummmm Ozil is 24 or 25 though and there is no question he is better than Ander Herrera at the moment. Herrera will be a good player but not in Ozils class yet.
garcon magnifique
I wouldn't describe 24 as "aging". Have to admit I hadn't heard of Herrera. When players I've never heard of command fees of over £30M I begin to wonder about the sanity of it all. (Or maybe I'm just out of touch. )
billy2shots
Herrera has been a regular in the lower age Spanish teams for a fair few years. Del Bosque, Spain manger thinks he will be a regular in the Spanish squad in years to come. The reason the money is so high is that everyone in Spain has a minimum release clause and 30 odd mil is his. Bilbao only sign Basque players which means 2 things. It's hard to replace quality players if they leave but also as they don't spend much they don't need the money. Meeting his buy out clause gives them no choice in the matter. Again, good young player but it smells a bit desperate last minute type thing.
Milo
Why spend £42m on an aging midfielder who is off form when you can buy a young midfielder for £30m who is generally higher rated in Spain? Or £24m on an older Fellaini? How will Herrera fit alongside Ronaldo? Ronaldo is still signing isn't he? And Bale?

Milo
Could be worse - you could lose Cabaye and Ben Arfa and not sign anybody... Exactly. And Krul. A zero in/zero out passing-of-transfer-deadline will be Kinnear's crowning glory. The club will say how hard they fought to keep them all and how successful they've been. Milo
Deadline day is hilarious :D Fellaini has now handed in a transfer request to try and force the move as Everton won't sell and Man U apparently turned up to pay the £36m buyout clause for Herrera only to leave without completing the deal because of 'bureaucratic reasons' They can borrow Newcastle's clown's hat if they want; in fact they probably need one of their very own

Milo
Webb left on a Bosman when purple-nose was forced out. In other news, Joe Kinnear's silence on the transfer market is apparently the result of spending all day phoning his 'contacts' trying to get Roy of the Rovers agent's number. Twinspark
You couldn't make it up... "Some bizarre reports coming out regarding United's collapsed Herrera deal. Apparently a group of men claiming to be United representatives spent an hour at the La Liga offices in Madrid today, but it turns out they had nothing to do with the club and were presumably just attempting to get a cut of the deal in an elaborate fraud. "Must be stressed these are just rumours but the Spanish media have published pictures of men in black suits - supposedly the United "representatives" - coming out of the league offices carrying briefcases. "All very strange and no doubt the truth will come out in the next few days."

NewNiceMrMe
What I am struggling to understand here is how the club hadn't seen the reports that their representatives were apparently in the offices. Did they just think it was speculation? Did they not issue a statement denying it because of that? It's difficult to blame United if imposters try doing something in their name, but I'm struggling to see how this could run for so long without them thinking something needed addressing.
