NewNiceMrMe
Maureen in park the bus shocker. That being said Athletico are hardly prolific in their crunch matches and can do the same. I suspect the return leg will be a similar affair and AM have the potential benefit of the Away goals rule I thought it was a tactical masterclass yet again from Mourinho. They completely nullified the very dangerous threat that Atletico have. I see them turning them over at Stamford Bridge because I honestly think Atletico looked rather demoralised at full time last night. I don't think they expected that. Waylander
Similar today in that Bayern were all over Real like a rash but the latter were incisive on one of the 2 breaks I saw.
NewNiceMrMe
I watched all of that match tonight and Real should have been 3-0 in the first half. Ronaldo should have scored, as should Di Maria (or squared it to Benzema). I do wonder if they might regret it but the fact Bayern didn't score the away goal could be crucial. If Bale is fully fit (which he wasn't tonight, hence the sub appearance) then I can't see Bayern keeping them out in Germany. Still think Real will win it. Torino101
Real - Chelsea would be an interesting final from a Maureen point of view.
NewNiceMrMe
Indeed it would. I thought Hoddle made an interesting point tonight. Guardiola has changed Schweinsteiger's position, and it isn't working. The attacking width has all but gone and they're much easier to break down and it's as if they thought they'd just turn up tonight and bang a few goals in and be done with it. Ancelotti is a very astute manager and I get the feeling this whole tournament is building towards a collosal stage for a certain Gareth Bale in the final. Waylander
I reckon the ideal situation for Maureen would be : win CL, claim nothing more to do at Chelski; go to ManU In fact I made just that comment to our ManU supporting work colleagues over lunch On a tangent, if Arsenal win the FA Cup, We win the League and Chelski the CL we potentially have the top 4 all winning a trophy

Luke
The Utd players calling Moyes 'Everton'. That's not very nice. And the senior players telling the younger ones to do what they say, not the manager.
garcon magnifique
I do love football gossip. I do think there's a very large fan with an even larger quantity of brown stuff heading straight for it, but I don't think that fan is at Carrington. I think it's in the boardroom. I'm not sure I believe all this tittle tattle about the players. However, that's an easy problem to solve.
Twinspark
I think there's no doubt that some of the senior players had a difference of views with Moyes - but it won't be anything to do with the reason why he went. That's almost certainly a results based decision. I do hope that the players who've been stirring up trouble are shown the door, though - Rio has made a complete cock of himself this season, which is a shame as he had done enough on the pitch to be considered a club legend. Interesting times - just hope they do the right thing with recruitment and interview for it, rather than pick someone because they're a straight talking British manager. Not really sure who I'd want from those available. I'd really like to see Jurgen Klopp, but I'm pretty sure he's not going to leave Dortmund. Let's see how Giggs, Scholes and Butt get on in the last few games, then take stock - if Giggs shows promise, it changes things a little, as it's feasible to bring in an older manager such as van Gaal for a few seasons to nurture Giggs into a future permanent manager. I think OGS made a huge mistake going to Cardiff - IMHO he's set his career back at least a year, as he now needs to move somewhere sane to prove himself again. Had he perhaps gone to West Brom and shown promise, he may well have been on the shortlist this summer.
garcon magnifique
I hope to god this isn't true - but I've just been told Jose Mourinho has told his agent to express interest in an approach from Manchester United. You know what. I really hope that's true. And Chelsea sack him for disloyalty. And then United give the job to someone else. That really would be special.

NewNiceMrMe
I can see Utd not being able to get a recognised manager unless they're allowed to have a massive clear out of players. Eh? On the basis of what? Van Gaal has already said he's interested. Klopp has ruled himself out. Laurent Blanc has refused to rule himself out. Carlo Ancelotti is refusing to comment (I'd quite like that appointment). Of course they'll get a recognised manager. They're not going to give it to Giggs even if he wins out remaining games 6-0 each time. They'll be far too nervous and rightly so. There will be an exodus of some players. That is bound to happen. I'm not sure why but most of the press seem to think a £30 deal for Luke Shaw is already done. As I understand it he's a lifelong Chelsea fan so if they show interest I can't see him choosing United instead. Llana is different though - that is one being touted today and I'd love to see that. Conte is another that won't rule himself out. Personally, I think the Van Gaal appointment is as good as done. I can't say it is what I want, but it seems likely they've made the decision already based on the fact he was already set to replace Ferguson the first time he retired and he has been making positive comments about it. Marco Van Basten has said Van Gaal told him Manchester United was a club he has always wanted to manage - and he supposedly said that in January of this year. However, apart from the fact I can't say he fills me with optimism, I just don't see how the club can wait until after the World Cup to get a manager in place and the transfers done. The prospect of leaving Ed Woodward to do it all on his own fills me with dread. The more I hear on a daily basis about Woodward letting Moyes down in the transfer market, the more frustrated I get. garcon magnifique
Some interesting comment on BBC today about the distance between Moyes and Woodward, both physical and personal. Moyes is "livid" with the way he has been treated by the club, and rightly so.
NewNiceMrMe
Quite a few things happening today. Giggs has gone on record in his first press conference by thanking Moyes for giving him a coaching opportunity. Very kind words. Moyes is very angry indeed, it seems. Not with anyone but Woodward, apparently. He appears to be suggesting all the things that were rumoured. He thinks Woodward lost them Gareth Bale and Cesc Fabregas. Bale had supposedly agreed to sign for £90m but Woodward tried getting them to agree to coming for the same price as Madrid were prepared to pay - in which time Madrid offered him more money. Fabregas was a done deal with Barca apparently on the condition the player was happy to go. Then, Woodward offered the player £25k less per week than he wanted so Fabregas told Barca he wanted to stay and that was that. Giggs has said he intends getting the club back to "playing with speed and real tempo" - so that's a start. I did like his joke though. "I've just handed myself a new 5 year playing contract." The rumour mill is suggesting that if United win their last 4 games that the club will consider offering Giggs the role with Carlos Queiroz as Assistant Manager. Oh and to add fuel to that earlier fire, ahem, Mourinho is now third favourite just behind Ancelotti. Some bookmakers have moved him down to 9/1 - from 40/1.
