Wellbeck plays football like a giraffe high on crack. I'm fed up with players playing for their country just because they play for a top club. Wellbeck is not an attacking wide player, he was played there at Utd because he is crap up front. He will now be down the pecking order because of that young Belgium/Bosnian/Albanian kid, yet will still make the England team. Wilshire would be my chice in that role against better teams, I would get him to play infield a bit helping the two centre mids which would leave space for Baines to exploit. Against weaker teams a more attacking player like Sturridge, Townsend, Walcott or Lennon could play there. Any of those players would do a better job than a bloke who can't control a ball, hit the target from 4yds out (what was that all about) hell he can't even run in a straight line without tripping himself up. Loyal (Man u) fans will point to his goal record in an England shirt. They have mostly been tap'ins that my Nan could score, and shes been dead 20 years.

I thought he was shocking last night, but to be fair to the guy he's not been too bad for England in the other games.

It's okay saying 'loyal Man U fans', Billy, but without Welbeck being in the positions he has for England...we wouldn't be going to Brazil.

However....

He has been awful for United.

Moyes only plays him when Rooney is being a dick (a lot) and he's a better feeder to RVP than Hernandez (even though I'd rather have him in the team).

However, as Billy says, Januzaj means Welbeck is now a bench warmer.  It would have happened when Jesse Lingard comes back from Birmingham anyway (although I suspect they might let him stay for a month or two more).

The reaction to Januzaj is interesting.  A lot of people are talking as if the club has just picked someone up out of nowhere.  Adnan Januzaj has been the prize talent at the club for a good while now.  Whether we can keep him or not is something else.

It was only 3 weeks ago in this thread I was hoping to see Moyes play him.  Eventually, he did (albeit a game too late) and everyone gets to see what real talent and enthusiasm can do.

Going to England though, Andros Townsend putting in 2 excellent games probably means he's worth £40m to Real Madrid now - and I wish I was joking.

I think the Scotland team and manager change has shown what a difference a manager can make. Who knows how to get the players going.

I'll wait to the Euros before I make judgement. Historically Scotland play well when they don't need to or are against a good team and they are the underdog but trip up when playing diddy teams.

Actually there is no pressure anymore as we're not expected to qualify plus our football league has been fecked for some time. As much as it hurts me to admit this but Celtic are now our only top team that "competes" in Europe.

I hope we do qualify so.some of the younger folk see their national team at the Euros or.World Cup.

I can't see Scotland qualifying for any major tournament in the near future, or the next 20 years for that matter.

There is no talent coming through whatsoever.  The SFA are even more guilty than the FA for making a mess of the game.

Strachan is the right man, but qualification for the Euro's or World Cup would require a group that would never be drawn.

The same goes for Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland too (albeit to a lesser extent, slightly).

Scottish days of producing the likes of Dalglish, Gemmill, Law, Baxter, Mackay, Johnstone, Burns, McNeill, Hansen, Souness,  etc are long gone.  Even Joe Jordan, Colin Hendry and Gordon McQueen would be classed as immediate team choices today.

That's without mentioning McNeill and Burns - players who took real pride in the shirt.

How many world class players do they have?  None.

How many nearly-world class players do they have?  None.

I'd like to see other home nation teams in tournaments too.  It gives something else to shout about.

If Scotland want to get any better players I think they need to do what Wales have done. Get a couple of clubs into the English Football League. Then they might start getting the interest and the youth talent to nurture. Teams fly to a lot of the away games, so an extra hour in the air isn't going to make much difference. They're probably nearer to the Northern clubs than the likes of Southampton anyway.

Newcastle should have won too (Gerrard should have been sent off), and it's not often I say that.

Disappointing result yesterday, no doubt about it for United.  Failure to convert chance after chance in the first half, a possibly questionable substitution decision in the second, and a lapse in defence that had otherwise looked reasonably solid in the face of some good football from Southampton.

All the Moyes-haters are out again but the guy can't go on the pitch with a minute to go and make sure they keep their concentration.

It's a long old season though and I'm still not worried.  Whatever it takes, so be it.

 some good football from Southampton.

I'm going to frame that

But to be honest it's a bloody miracle considering that 3 seasons ago we'd just come out of administration and were playing in the 1st division. Thank goodness to Markus Liebherr (RIP) who believed in us.

It does seem that the Chairman's decision to oust Adkins is turning out to be a particularly good one.

I recall the comments when he was sacked and I thought Pochettino was doomed, but he has certainly done something to be producing the style of football they are.  Whether they can sustain it, or the squad can handle a long season, is another thing.  I can't deny they look good at the moment though.

I still think Arsenal have got a lot of very tough games to come after an easy start and we've not really seen what they can do.  They did produce a very nice goal yesterday though.

City seem to be inconsistent but look the part when they have the sort of game they did yesterday.  Silva coming back appears to give them more stability.

Chelsea are just odd but keep grinding it out when they need to.

We just have to keep the faith and the form will come.  I was gutted yesterday because we'd gone to do some quick shopping and left the car 1-0 up.  Returning to it at 5pm and realising it hadn't turned out as we'd have wanted came in the form of Mark Chapman on 5 Live saying "..we expect plenty of calls from Manchester United fans tonight."

I cringed and we drove to the seafront so I could get some fresh air...:roflmao:

Yes, it was a bit of a shock to change a manager who'd done so well for a total unknown but it does seem to be paying dividends. Last season the aim was to stay up and this season is to finish in the top half - so far so good. They seem to have no fear of the big teams too as proven against Liverpool and MU, they've also been very defensive only conceding 4 goals this season compared to 24 at the same point last year.

I'm getting increasingly worried about the situation at OT - you all know I really don't like Moyes - and he's doing absolutely nothing to change that.

Thing is, if we end up outside the European places this season, it screws the financial model, and it makes the club very unattractive to ambitious players. One thing we've had for a time now is that, even if we don't pay big wages, we always had a relatively decent European history behind us. Without Euro football and a squeeze on finances, it'll be very hard to attract the kind of players needed to turn things around.

I have to say, the real mistake here may not actually be the appointment of Moyes - the big mistake is that he got rid of everyone who has made the club successful - Phelan and Meulensteen really should have been kept on to ensure some form of continuity.

I think Moyes will see out the season, but if things aren't looking up by January, I suspect the hunt for his replacement will begin. (I don't care if he has a 6 year contract - there will be performance clauses in there to safeguard the club - one thing the Glazers aren't is stupid when it comes to things like this)
