I've watched this a few times today and also read some interesting comments from referees.

None of them can agree.

The rule of preventing a goalkeeper from releasing a ball is an odd one.  The problem seems to come from the fact that the 'intent of the player (the attacker)' is clearly to prevent the keeper releasing the ball - but he releases it and from that moment the ball is in open play.

Some seem to think it was a goal, some don't.  The FA look set to intervene on this but Bournemouth aren't going to get the goal back, that much is obvious.

I have to say I think Bournemouth are cracking up a bit.  I would feel aggrieved, but they should be up by now.  Watford look a certainty now, and my money would be on Middlesbrough to follow them (even though I keep telling my cousin I think Boro will end up in the play-offs).

I find it almost inconceivable that Bournemouth will find themselves in the play offs after the season they've had, but their current form isn't good.

But on the question you asked....

I'd have disallowed it.  The player has the intent of blocking the ball.

Why didn't the goalie just move slightly to the left before taking the kick, it looks like he was trying to deliberately kick the ball at Wilson. If the goal had been given Bournemouth would have remained top instead of dropping to 3rd. It's all too tight to call, although the up and coming Middlesbrough game may make things clearer.

Bournemouth can't count on things like that to get promotion.  They should be winning those games and you know it!

I think the nerves may be getting to Bournemouth.  Middlesbrough have the advantage of Bamford and he seems to pop up with goals just when they need them.  I also think Karanka has worked wonders there when you look at where they were when he took over.

I think the decision could have gone either way but I don't think anyone can predict Lee Masons decisions from week to week.  He isn't a referee I rate very highly.

Back in the real world.......

March 3rd

2-1 Win vs Wolves

March 6th

5-1 win vs Fulham

March 14th

4-0 Win vs Blackpool

March 17th

1-1 Draw vs Cardiff

All big teams that have had very recent Premiership football.

2009-2010 season Bournemouth were still in League 1 (3rd tier of English football). They have spent the majority of their years in this division and the one below it.

2013-2014 Season Bournemouth finished 10th in the Championship. This is the highest position they have ever finished in the football league in the clubs history. A massive over achievement!!

Bournemouth currently sit 3rd in the Championship,2 points off of 1st position and a real chance of promotion or making the playoffs.

In the last couple of years Dean Court (now the Goldsands Stadium) has had massive refurbishment and can now hold a whopping 12,000 people.

Should be winning games against massive teams????? No

Cracking up???????? No

Massively overachieving? Hell yes, with bells on.

A mate of mine was at the game (I was due to go but the Mrs was on a flight). He said all our goals were lucky, the pen was never a pen and the own goal was ridiculously bad luck. Leicester had more shots on goal and deserved the points really. He said the decisions were terrible. Unlucky for you guys, the bigger clubs seem to get the nod on this, especially at home.
