NewNiceMrMe
I do hope not (that we keep LVG). I don't think I've ever said previously and I don't like doing it now, but this isn't working and I'd be pushing the button now. The style, the tactics, the player choices, it is all going horribly wrong. The league position is only as it is because of others inconsistency. I actually think they'll keep him until the end of the season, but I won't be surprised to see him go much sooner. Giggs understands the club but is having to do as he is told. Give him the job or go for Ancelotti. They won't get Guardiola because I'm convinced he's off to City in the summer and that deal is done. I don't really care, but they have to do something now. It's the way it is happening. He is sapping the life out of the team. I had never seen players shouting at the bench to ask what formation we were playing or what was meant to be happening. Until today. Blind and Mata both did it. Edited December 12, 2015 by NewNiceMrMe
Scotty
How does this year differ to the situation with Moyes? From memory I thought you were maintaining the position that a team supporter backs the manager?
billy2shots
Utd probably won't get Pep because 2 weeks ago the club released a statement saying 'we don't want him'. Utter madness to release such a statement, things change so quickly in football as we all know. Utd's tactics are baffling. Ok so I agree with LVG that they are not the Utd of 10 years ago but you would back them any day of the week to out play a Bournemouth team whose whole squad (squad not team) cost less than Juan Mata. They didn't try to outplay them though, they stuck to their 90s Wimbledon tactic of long diagonal balls to side show bob. It's cringeworthy watching the biggest team in world football play like this. By default that also makes them the biggest team in England, no wonder Europe is laughing at us. For fairness City have also been absolutely awful following a decent start. It's like they don't really feel any threat because of Chelsea's poor season and don't really see Leicester, Arsenal and Utd as title rivals. For me the reason why our top teams are struggling with consistency is obvious. Goals win games. For the last couple of decades it was believed a title winning team needed 4 good strikers. Now most teams play 1 up top now a days so that could probably be revised to 3. Man City- Aguero (constantly injured),Bony Utd - Wazza, Martial Chelsea- Costa, Remy Arsenal - Giroud and maybe 1/2 for Walcott. Something as simple as 3 strikers rotated with form and fitness in mind would see any of those 4 teams clear at the top imo. Calm Chris
Chelsea might be keeping their manager but I'm not sure you will be! I'm loving this topsy turvey season! As much as I dislike Villa I really want them to turn over Arsenal tomorrow. Not a chance, our manager works with the team (depleted as it might be). Joel Campbell is in a feisty mood. garcon magnifique
How does this year differ to the situation with Moyes? In one significant way. Moyes was a long term appointment. The strategy in employing Moyes was the same as it was under Ferguson. Stability and continuity with a manager capable of building three or four great teams and winning trophies over a sustained period. Unfortunately for Moyes it (or rather he) kind of fell apart in year one. By employing LVG, the board abandoned that strategy completely. They panicked. LVG was a short term fix, someone who's job was to get the club winning again (games then trophies) quickly, someone to restore the confidence of the fans. It was accepted by everyone on the day he signed that he wouldn't be staying any longer than that contract. On that basis, even though United are still in the fight for the Premiership, he has already failed.
NewNiceMrMe
Moyes hadn't had a quarter of a billion quid to spend either. Martial isn't even being played as a striker most of the time. I accept he's (LVG) been hard hit with injuries and Luke Shaw was a colossal loss as he was our best player by a distance when the PSV player crocked him. Herrera, Rojo, Smalling, Jones, Darmian, Perreira (until last week), etc. - all out. But, and it's a big factor - Hernandez is scoring for fun in Germany. Wilson scored a gem for Brighton yesterday. We allowed them both to leave and that stuns me when you look at the striker situation we're faced with. The problem is that the team doesn't seem to know what they're meant to be doing. Ashley Young was playing fantastic football and then he dropped him. Schweinsteiger was taken off against Wolfsburg and replaced with Nick Powell! He then brought Powell on again yesterday - leaving Young on the bench again. Blind and Mata are screaming at the bench and asking what the formation is. Herrera, when fit, was playing superbly but then he'd drop him. Carrick being left out when fit. The list goes on and on. I think Van Gaal has lost it completely now and anyone we play in the coming weeks will be rubbing their hands together in glee.
