billy2shots
Haha. We obviously watched different games. Full strength team???? Caballero - backup GK played 90 mins Maffeo - youth right back played 90 mins Clichy - backupn LB played 90 kolorov / came on at half time and played centreback lol..... Garcia - youth mid played 90 mins Fernando - backup mid played 90 Navas - backup winger played 90 mins (1 goal in last 100 apps lol) Kelechi - backup striker played 90 mins Put it another way, 2 Utd starters cost more than the entire starting City 11 Pogba+Shaw Pogba+Mata Pogba+De Gea Pogba+Herrara and possibly Pogba + Valencia We obviously have very different ideas of what full strength means??? Utd dominated 10 minutes after half time. That domination meant 2 shots on target and 48% possession for the entire match. Embarrassing against a weakened City. Did Utd deserve to win? Yes of course they did. This competition was a Micky Mouse cup last year to Utd fans but now they are playing a full strength team and the manager wants to win it, it has suddenly become important. City deserved to lose for not taking it seriously and Pep said in his pre match interview 'This is my lowest Priority ' . Hardly inspiring and the players followed his lead. City, Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea all made lots of changes to their teams and ALL played backup keepers. Utd have set their sights on the trophy and have decided to concentrate on it. That's a good thing but Utd fans shouldn't convince themselves they beat a 'full strength ' City side. garcon magnifique
All this joshing is all very well, but there's an important undercurrent here. While the likes of United, City and Chelsea faff about there's a serious risk that Arsenal, or, God forbid, Liverpool could end up winning the league by default. And nobody wants that. billy2shots
Liverpool do look strong but an injury to Firmino or Coutinho would end their challenge. Back to City. I am more than worried. Pep has the players completely confused with his tactics. 4-4-2 one week then 3-5-1-1 then 4-3-3, the players haven't had time to master any of them. Then there's his arm waving on the side line. Is he dancing or flagging down an airplane? There's no way anyone on the pitch knows what he is signalling. You would need a degree in British sign language to have the faintest idea of what message he is trying to deliver. Don't misunderstand this as a 'Pep out' rant but I'm worried. Sometimes it's like watching Arsenal with passing for the sake of it. That's ok with Messi in the team as at some point he will come deep to get it and then take 4 players on before sticking it in the corner. The obvious problem is there is only one Messi and Pep doesn't have him anymore. A run of bad results was reason enough to play a strong team yesterday. More so given it was a derby but Pep decided differently. I'm not going to lie, my heart sank when I saw the two lineups. It was risky and nothing less than a win on the weekend will be good enough to paper over some cracks that are starting to appear.
garcon magnifique
What is City's objective? Win the league and do better in the Champions League this season? Or create a long term dynasty at the pinnacle of European football? If it's the latter, and I think for the owners it is, then it will need time for Pep to assemble a squad of players capable of delivering that and a youth system capable of sustaining it. City don't have Messi, and never will, but they need to aim to have the next Messi, ideally graduating from their youth team.
billy2shots
All good points. When /if they have the new Messi then they can start playing 'beautiful ' football. For now I would take a 1-0 win against WBA.

When did I change my name to nobody? Considering the money spent in Manchester the last few years.... Both teams should be keeping up with the Spanish teams in terms of performance and results. At the moment neither are anywhere as good as they should be given the spending. Man Utd are keeping up with Everton and Southampton,
NewNiceMrMe
Arsenal won't win the league. They're doing nothing that they don't do every other year right now. It'll all end in tears in 2017, just like very other year. United have a man in charge for 9 Premier League games. Just 9. It doesn't matter what you spend, if you've only been with a squad for 9 PL games then you're going to take time to get it sorted. Arsenal, however, have had the same manager for seventy billion and three years - and not won the league in how long? 13 years now? Yet an Arsenal fan dares to criticise either Manchester club. billy2shots
Kids are funny aren't they. Just got back from karate with my 6 year old daughter. She wouldn't get out of the car and started to cry. After about 2 minutes I managed to get her to speak. 'What's the matter' 'Daddy I want Joe Hart back' I have no idea where that came from but could only empathise with her.

garcon magnifique
At least City fans can blame the inevitable hammering on the clearly biased ref.

Calm Chris
Are Man Utd trying get out the Europa league to concentrate on the Premier league and get a place in next years Champions league Another stunning performance by the red has-beens from Manchester. Jose showing his class by talking to the press and not his players. Last time I looked he was 4/5 to be the next PL manager sacked. I thought Spurs held the record for the most managers pushed out over a decade period. Are Man Utd thinking there is a trophy for the most managers pushed out, or the most money spent without actually improving the teams performance Never mind, once upon a time.... billy2shots
Is it too early to use the word crisis?.
garcon magnifique
This is a crisis. A large crisis. In fact, if you've got a moment, it's a twelve storey crisis with a magnificent entrance hall, carpeting throughout, 24 hour portage, and an enormous sign on the roof, saying "This Is A Large Crisis". NewNiceMrMe
It isn't a crisis. The guy has had as many games in charge of United as Arsenal have had years without a Premier League trophy. THAT is a crisis. Jose will get it right. Look at City, one win over Barca and the fact Pep had just gone 6 games without a win is forgotten! Football is so fickle it is almost as fickle as the fickle fans of fickle Arsenal. Booster
Leicester win the CL group with a game in hand! Off to Porto next month for the final game so that will be a good old party! billy2shots
Great to see Leicester go through and they deserve it for what they did last season. As long as that don't get relegated I think they/you should be happy. Hell if someone said to you at the end of the 14/15 season that you can win the Premiership next season but get relegated the year after, I'm sure most fans would have taken that.
Torino101
I'm hoping this is some hoax, has Ranieri seriously been sacked. Football has lost all sanity now.
NewNiceMrMe
Yes, he's gone. Lunacy. Under Nigel Pearson, Leicester were 7 points adrift at the foot of the table but they allowed him time to turn it around. Most reports from the respected sports journalists now suggest that the players complained directly to the board, refusing to play for him any longer. Nice. Booster
I'm going to do a shit through Mahrez's letterbox. I can't believe the timing of it. Good away goal last night. I know there is no time for sentiment for football but this stinks! He looks sadder on my kitchen wall now than he did earlier. He is the right way up on the wall though!
