I can't see it happening Daz.  As impressive as Southampton have been, I'm not sure they players will want to gamble on whether or not that will continue.

I don't know how much money your nutter of an owner has, but maybe he'll open his wallet wider to keep them?  Even then though, there's only so much he's going to be able to satify them with if they want to go on to win trophies.  If Chelsea, City, United, Arsenal etc start expressing serious interest, I can see Llana (or however you spell it) and Luke Shaw being very tempted.  I think Luke Shaw is one of the best young talents in English football right now.

Good result, undeniably.  Second place finish will be interesting in respect of who you get in the next round.

United through as group winners and no defeats.

I await TwinSpark coming in and telling us all how 6 games in the Champions League with no defeats and finishing top of our group

*shrugs*

Other than the 2 games against Leverkusen, it was a pretty dire campaign in a relatively weak group. No idea what the hell happened to the Germans, but something spooked them, as we were hopeless against everyone else.

Anyway, who knows, maybe we'll challenge Liverpool for the unofficial 'worst team to ever win the European Cup' title!

Congratulations to Man City on a fine meaningless victory.

I will take the bait and say

That result could have a huge impact in the league. Our second string comes from 2 down against the best team in Europe who were going for the win using the best team.

That's going to give us huge confidence at a crucial time of the year where the games come thick and fast over the festive period.

2 down after 9 minutes and it could have been the opposite. I thought we were in for a 5 or 6 goal beating which would have sucked the confidence out of the entire squad.

I maybe suffering a moment of weakness here but I'm going to say it anyway.

If the last two results are indicative of having sorted their away form then City are looking ominous. Especially with Silva returning. There was never any question that they have the best squad, it was all about whether Pellegrini could make the best of that squad and get it to look like a team.

I don't think Bayern are the best team in Europe, and nor do I think they'll win it.   If you're the best in Europe you don't lose 2-3 at home from 2-0 up.

I think Real Madrid will win it.  I also think they'll take the league off Barcelona.

As for Arsenal last night, what a complete disaster for them.

In total control (I listened on the radio whilst driving up from London) and through as group winners - and then they throw it away.  Whoever they get in the next round, they're out.

They did a Bayern last night. Turned up with the wrong mentality. Should have been set up to hit Napoli on the break. Both defences were playing such a high line, that's why it was so scrappy in the first half, then when there's tired legs towards the end and they start throwing the kitchen sink at us there was still no change. Should've chucked Theo and Gnabry on with half hour to go. Keep Napoli in their box and go through top.

I think it's slightly unlucky that Dortmund found a winner. If they hadn't it would've been a perfect scoreline to knock them out and retain top spot.

I don't fancy any of those teams in the next round :(

When can I start saying we're concentrating on the league?

I'd start now.

Arteta suspended for the first leg of the next round too.

I have to say though, Giroud sounded fantastic last night.  I could only listen to it but it was said that he ran his legs off holding the forward line on his own and gave his all.

I fear you're going to get thrashing on Saturday.  I've probably just ruined it.

Funny that, I thought they were in the Europa Cup.

Judging by numerous statements over the last 24 hours I am even more convinced that Wesley Sneijder is going to be at Chelsea or Manchester United by the end of January.  If it comes down to a competition between the two clubs then I can only see Chelsea winning.  If United's £100m warchest is to be finally raided then I can't see them wanting to splash a huge amount of it on Sneijder.

I suspect we'll end up pursuing Fredy Guarin from Inter Milan.  His price tag of £15m would leave money if there were signs of a big name becoming available.

Marco Reus and Ryan Gauld (the little Scottish bloke who can actually play football) seem to be the other names consistently linked.

I was interested to see the Mail running their latest crock of crap story last week - that Iniesta will sign for United.  Yeah right, and Lionel Messi will follow him I'm sure.:roflmao:
