Yep I read that too.

Back to KP - interesting debate with Boycott and Aggers this morning (hey, it makes traffic on Washway Road tolerable!) asking how many of KP's decent knocks have been played when the team is doing badly and "need him" and how many when the rest of the team are also firing.

Very few knocks where he has "saved" the team - it's all about Team-KP (yes I know that is rich coming from Team-Boycott)

I feel sorry (is that the right word) for the team having to go out and finish off the series now. It will speak volumes when we see how much effort they put in.

I thought the KP musings were actually whether the number of times he makes a massive difference and wins us a test, versus the number of times he loses us a test by not being a leading batsmen, was beneficial to the team overall. Interesting. I'd have him, every time, although I might have a fight on my hands if Garcon was my batting coach.

I also wonder if there will be a DVD released entitled "the horror of the 2013/14 series" depicting the behind the scenes arguments and depression that was in the dressing room since before the start of this series. I certainly think there must be something up for the whole team to just not work. They are all a hugely talented bunch so for the whole lot to be off is just odd.

Cook is the best English batsmen of his generation and arguably a couple of generations previous. The question this tour raises is whether he is the best choice for captain - which also raises the perennial question about captain choice. Would he be an (even) better batsman without the burden of captaincy?

No argument from me about him being crap in this series, none at all. But not the worst. Let's say bottom three shall we?

In any case, the margins of sh1tness are so fine in England at the moment that from a distance, a relatively short distance, they all merge into one anyway!

Some interesting batting stats here.

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/the-ashes-2013-14/engine/records/batting/most_runs_career.html?id=7899;type=series

Obviously the Ausies have all the highest run scorers but look in some more detail.

Stokes is our second highest run scorer having played in only 2 out of the 3 games.

Mitchell Johnson has a higher batting average than all of our players, his total runs are down because Australia keep declaring so he doesn't need to bat.

Ryan Harris has more runs than Swann and Broad. Swann and Broad have batted 6 times and Harris only 3. Ryan fecking Harris!

Then there is the Bowling

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/the-ashes-2013-14/engine/records/bowling/most_wickets_career.html?id=7899;type=series

Johnson 23 wickets

Harris 12

Siddle 11

Lyon 10

Broad 14

Anderson 7

Swann 7

Sometimes stats can lie. Not in this case. If anyone manages to locate where the second best bowler in the world is, could they please return James Anderson to the England squad.

That will only be sold in Australia.  It'll be a top seller.
