m4ttm4son
It's okay. You'd be amazed what a can of petrol and a lighter can do. Extreme rope climb! :D
NewNiceMrMe
The coincidence with this and the knock I've just had at the front door is scary (about to appear in LTTRWYU thread).
Twinspark
I'm currently investigating joining a local athletics club. Whilst I'm incredibly out of shape - I will qualify for the over 40s age category this summer... so will be competing against similarly tubby 40-odd year olds trying to re-discover their youth... Mind you, the British over-40s 100m record holder is the one and only Linford Christie.
Andrew
Knackered. PB (roughly, never really time myself) in the pool - 2k in about 38 mins going through the mile marker in about 30 mins or so. 28.5s a length - happy with that for now. Not entirely sure why I'm swimming so much (up to 7k a week) but I'm enjoying it for now!

Twinspark
Swimming seems to be really good for you - I've been trying to swim 1km after every gym session - it has done my 'core' the world of good.

Mook
I've gotten out of swimming over the winter and I'm not too chuffed about it. Kicking off again in March though
Andrew
It isn't really very quick (but thanks all the same) - there are guys in the pool that make me think I'm going backwards. One thing that did help though was opening up my fingers - apparently that is the new way of doing it as you get more pull. Seems to work! I am sitting here properly whacked though! NewNiceMrMe
"Piss about on the 'net" Do you think you achieved that much?
Twinspark
I achieved loads - instead of posting on forums, I got work done when sitting in hotel bars and solved a few problems which had been kicking around for a number of years, but hadn't been dealt with. Also lost 2 inches from my waistline through swimming lots.

I can't see how that can work. Have you ever tried swimming with handle paddles? You fooking tear along, but boy do you feel your muscles burn if you keep up your normal stroke speed. Milo
* that was hand paddles, not handle paddles. Stupid phone.
Andrew
Well, I've heard it from a few people now. I find it puts less strain on my shoulders - at least that is what it feels like. The advice might have coincided with me getting naturally stronger - I've only been swimming with splayed fingers for about 2-3 weeks. Tried hand paddles from the same bloke that told be about spreading your fingers and yes, they were hard work!
M8CKN
Just having a quick read back over this thread..hows everyone doing with their 2014 good intentions? I've lost 19lb and 4" off my waist since June, another 12lb to go to where I want to be
Drinks
My plans went okay. Did the Cholmondley triathlon with minimal training but it got me back in the routine. Then did the Sandman as recommended by Mook. Just plodding along at the moment and have to keep it ticking over the Winter as I am doing the Outlaw half in May and then Ironman Wales in September which is a huge challenge for me. In fact I think I'm in over my head.
Luke
I completed the Beast, which I loved, even though it was mental. I do a fitness class, karate based every Tuesday. Weight is steady at around 13st. I'm in pretty good shape for an old bloke.
Andrew
The new job is playing havoc with my fitness. Not able to get to the gym or paddle when I'm in London (LCR is dead at the moment due to a battery short) and pulled something in my calf on a run last week so scuppered there too. Will have to get sorted for cycling down south again.
JamesB
I'm signed up for a marathon in March, half ironman in June, another half in September and an ironman in November. I'd like to complete all of those, although training time is at a premium. I'd like to get my 10k time down as well. Oh ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaa. Through gritted and bitter teeth. I developed Achilles tendonitis early this year and have not been able to run frequently or too far since. So I ended up doing NONE of the races listed above (well, I did the swim leg of a relay for one of the halves - not as quickly as I would have liked). The Achilles is still a problem and I am starting to struggle to believe I will ever get back to being able to run properly. The only minor consolation is that I have been able to do enough non-running exercise that my weight hasn't rocketed - in fact, down a few kg - but that feels a pretty hollow victory right now. What a little ray of sunshine I am.
Soulboy
I have ended up coaching at a new boxing club since July. Teaching teens twice a week and adults 3 times a week minimum. As I get involved with the training it's getting me fit. Although, due to bring an old get, i am constantly carrying injuries and aches and pains. Very pleased with it all tbh.....a big part of my life now.
